It’s a syndrome called "torn between two worlds". In animals it leads to starvation or instant death. A beast will die of hunger because it can’t decide which pasture to eat from, especially if both the grass from each of the divided pasture smells nice and fresh. Another wild beast in pursuit of prey will split in two and die in the spot, when its path splits to two directions each with its own nice and fresh smell of flesh.
To such individuals, the denial as to where to place allegiance is the cancer that ravages there souls.
