Border to get 1,200 national guardsmen Aug. 1 - U.S. news - Security - msnbc.com

National Guard troops will head to the U.S.-Mexico border Aug. 1 for a yearlong deployment to keep a lookout for illegal border crossers and smugglers and help in criminal investigations, federal officials said Monday.

The 1,200 troops will be distributed among four border states, with Arizona getting 524; Texas, 250; California, 224 and New Mexico, 72. Another 130 would be assigned to a national liaison office.

Bersin also said the Homeland Security Department will provide six more aircraft, including helicopters, to the border. He said at least 300 Customs and Border Protection agents and inspection officers would be sent to the Tucson area, along with mobile surveillance vans and additional technology.

Good, we need more then this amount but that is a start.

Since we have terrorist illegals coming across our borders we need our military down there to close down the border to Mexico completely.

We need one way in and one way out with every single vehicle personally inspected, ran through radar and drug and heat sensors used.

It is the governments job to protect the citizens from the illegal terrorist who are coming into our country.

Close that border down completely with our military covering ever mile of it and gaining control the of entire border.

I think we should pull our troops out of Iraq & Afghanistan and put some of them on the border. That's the most logical thing to do, but then again its too much of a good idea for the ones in charge.

Whatever it takes. I agree that the US troops would be a good idea, too. Hell with fixing the rest of the world right now. We are being invaded, and drained by parasites.

I think the border should be militarized. Wow! That's one ugly fence!

It gets hotter in Afghanistan than on that border but I think my foster daughter would rather stay in Afghanistan where she is given on M-4 and one M-16 just in case.

I have to wonder how many of those NG people on that border will be armed. Will it be like last time when they not only weren't armed they were supposed to just tell on those interlopers. About 1/10th of the needed people are going down and that proves little to me. Maybe the rest have to be kept in the States to fight off those racist Tea Partiers.

I believe the first troops sent there were not National Guard but Army troops, so this is the 2nd time they send troops to the border.

Order the military to shoot unarmed civilians? I don't think so, but it is a good idea to have troops there, because their mere presence will deter many from even trying.
