I think it's pretty clear that whatever took place is being covered up ... probably on the orders of the FedGov to avoid making them look weak on border security so they will be able to avoid being forced to take action (and alienate the potential Hispanic voters) during an election year.

Update:

As of 10:00p.m. PST New Patriot Journal has verified though independent sources in the Laredo police department that there may be some validity to the rumors that have been circulating for the past 24 hours. Reports are that U.S. Border Patrol agents as well as officers from the Webb County Sheriff’s department are confirming reports that a call was received by a local rancher in the Santa Isabel River area outside of Laredo, TX Friday night regarding unauthorized men and vehicles on his land. Currently County and Federal officials are on the scene.

Sources inside the Laredo P.D. confirmed reports that starting Friday night an altercation between unidentified people had taken over one ranch but that the situation is not within the jurisdiction of the Laredo P.D. so they don’t have officers working it.

Why do people keep calling the Laredo police for confirmation - it's not their jurisdiction - instead of the Webb County sheriff or the FBI?

The above link is more of yesterday's lies/rumors. Note the date below the headline. Also note the author is someone who goes by LBG1. Wow. No name, just LBG1.

Mexican Drug Cartel Seize Texas Ranches; Laredo Police: We Can’t Say Anything!

The article references the same anti-Mexican blog, Digger Relm, that was referenced in article that was provided on this threads OP. It also references the April 2, 2010 Houston Chronicle article that was used as a reference in the Cypress Times' erroneous article that the link in the OP.

The article/blog in the above link also references a blog called "The Examiner, which had the same July 24, 2010 rumor that went viral yesterday.

As much as someone tells me the color of grass is purple all I see is green. A lie cannot be turned into the truth by referencing more erronous blogs. Give it up, dude.

Local law enforcement was bombarded with calls from across the country Saturday asking about a report that the Zetas had taken over two ranches off Mines Road.

But officials with the Laredo Police Department, Webb County Sheriff’s Department and Border Patrol said they knew nothing about such an incident, while Erik Vasys, an FBI spokesman in San Antonio, said the agency does not comment on rumors.

But Investigator Jose E. Baeza, LPD spokesman, said he had not heard anything about the incident. Also, an LPD sergeant, who was on duty as a watch commander Saturday afternoon, said she had not heard anything about it either.
