Welcome to history, my friend.

HA, HA, HA, There are almost 50 million hispanic-american in the US, that are US citizens and ain't going away, most of them speak spanish, Spanish in our culture has been a fact for ages, more-over the two gigantic spanish networks; telemundo, and univision help spanish/hispanic culture
to be an everyday thing in the united states.
Then add the huge amount of undocumented and growing number of anchor babies, and cinco di mayo will be a national holiday in the US.

You do know that a majority of Hispanics in this country are legal citizens right? The illegal immigrants are leaving, yes, I know that, but that is only a small amount compared to the huge amount of legal residents, or in my case, US citizens that happen to be Hispanic, that are staying put and are trying to make the best of the recession. We are here to stay, we live here, and no one is going to make us leave. We earned our right to be here, legally.

I wouldn't go that far either. The day cinco de mayo becomes a holiday in the US, I am moving to Canada. As much as I love my Cuban culture, I know how bad we are at governing and running a country. I don't want our ruthless leaders wannabe to screw up the USA.

Go ahead ArizonaBear, let me have it.

I hope you are saying that in jest.

Quite a few people from Third World nations prefer not to deal with the Mugabe's, Chavez's, etc. of the world (not that I blame the former either) and gladly live under First World laws and mores.

Yeah, I know, but have you seen how horrible the City of Miami is run?! It is governed by Cubans, and sad to say, we know jack s$%^ about how to run a city, not to even to mention a country. That's why I said that I would move away if we ever have a president Gonzalez, Martinez or any thing that sounds hispanic. We simply do not know how to govern without corruption.

P.S. In the short 100 year history of an independent Cuba, we have had three dictartors (Machado, Batista, Castro). The only time the island nation was prosperous was during the 40's and 50's that the USA had alot invested in the island.

With all the talk of speaking Spanish and the possible "Assimilation" into the American culture I am reminded of a few yrs back when a hispanic customer came into my business with his 3-4 yr old son.

I spoke to the boy in a little Spanish I knew and he nodded his head. Asked the father if he was teaching or speaking Spanish to his son. Answer was that he did not speak any Spanish. How could this be? I asked. He never learned to speak any growing up and as to his son understanding...it was Obuela (grandmother) who always spoke in Spanish to the boy.

Guess a person would be calling this future "Assimilation" on a minor scale.

That's your opinion, because you are Puerto Rican. It hurts to know that we were so prosperous while others were not. But that's not what this thread is about.
