My friends and family on both sides of the border, feel that the Mexican government has no control whatsoever. Too many murders, kidnappings, etc., for Mexico to be anything more than a third world country. If only they could right their economy, and get the rift raft out of politics.
I'll take it you are pro-amnesty with that remark.
Illegals being deported or sent to ICE aren't having their civil rights voilated.
I'm not pro-amnesty for illegal immigrants.
The Phoenix New Times staff are not illegal immigrants, for one thing,
I highly doubt everyone who has suffered at the hands of Arpaio's rogue department is an illegal alien. Even those I know who support SB 1070 have said that Arpaio routinely abuses the civil rights of detainees even if they're US citizens.
Just because he's "tough on illegals" you make him into a messiah.
He's as dirty as all hell and should go down (I wouldn't be surprised if this story is fake and a product of his own martyrdom complex). He shouldn't lose his life extrajudicially, but he should be arrested and indicted (and hopefully put in a Tent City in GP) Arpaio has no more respect for the US justice system than Roman Polanski does
The only place I can find this is on the Drudge Report, and they are running a story by a FOX affiliate that is reporting that someone's wife received a text message that is being investigated, but they admit it will be difficult to corroborate the story because it originated from an international number.
Two weeks ago a story hit some of the right-wing blogs that drug cartels had invaded Laredo, taken over two ranches, and evicted the owners of the ranches from their property.
It turned out that the story had originated on Digger's Realm, a notoriously anti-legal-or-illegal-Mexican blog. It died over a couple of days, but a lot of hot heads were ready to take up arms and go to Laredo and shoot anything they saw with a brown skin.
If we wait a couple of days we may find that this bounty on Arpaio's head is So much caca. I personally will reserve judgement until facts are known, but "Somebody's wife receiving a text message" is hardly an unimpeachable source. I wonder how many drug cartel members are illegal immigrants or any other kind? The story I saw said the threat came out of Mexico. That would hardly have come from an illegal immigrant even if it is true.
Does anyone have another source? Here is the link to the story on Drudge:
Would you feel better if it were American criminals that were threatening Arpaio's life? Or if some mullah issued a fatwa against Arpaio a la Salman Rushdie?
Death threats against prominent political figures in the news are nothing new.
Arpaio should be indicted and tried on charges of civil rights violations, fraud, corruption, etc. and if convicted, imprisoned, and most of all there should be a consent decree on the Maricopa Co. Sheriff's which would mean Arpaio would be a powerless figurehead. But he should not be killed although I know Arizonans (some of whom support 1070) who'd probably throw a party if he was.
The problem with that is, Sheriff Joe is an elected official. Elected BY THE PEOPLE.
He is not appointed, like some paid off corrupt police chief.
He is doing what he said he was going to do, before he was elected.
The majority of the American citizens that live in Maricopa County, agree with his manners and tactics. He has been re-elected how many times?
Your part of the problem, not the solution!
Are illegals fleeing Arizona? Must be working, eh?
Have not heard any stories of real American Citizens fleeing Arizona. Not one! Why? That would be big! Media would be all over it. Why?
Funny how the same people who (rightfully) call for prosecutions for political corruption of Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters make the equally corrupt Arpaio into a saint and a hero and think he's the second coming of Christ.
Arpaio, Rangel, and Waters need to be indicted and tried, and, if convicted, imprisoned.
And funny you mention the Mafia because Arpaio has documented mob ties going back to when he was a Vegas cop, and may have carried out hits.
No one should be blinded to the crime of people in high places because of party or ideology.
A salient link or two might help to solidify your rant.
