Tamil migrant ship docks in B.C

Tamil migrant ship docks in B.C. - The Globe and Mail (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/tamil-migrant-ship-docks-in-bc/article1671766/ - broken link)

Quote:
The Tamil vessel carrying 490 suspected asylum seekers has docked at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.

After a three-month journey, shrouded in as much secrecy as controversy, the MV Sun Sea approached the navy base just after 6:10 a.m. PT Friday. At least a dozen armed Canadian officers were visible onboard.

The vessel was escorted under dawn’s breaking light by HMCS Winnipeg, marine patrol zodiacs and RCMP catamarans as an RCMP helicopter hovered above.

Tarps are being put up along the fence where the migrants will walk past as they are taken off the boat. At least five buses and one ambulance were waiting on the base.

This is becoming a really big debate in Canada, it seems that the majority are against letting these people stay.

This is becoming a really big debate in Canada, it seems that the majority are against letting these people stay.

Gary Anandasangaree of the Canadian Tamil Congress was on the scene as the ship to arrived.

“Our primary concern is the health and safety of those onboard,” he said.

Looks like Gary here, isn't interested in what the majority want. And he has help from other people in power.
