Please point out where in the article the author makes that distinction. I am pretty sure you can't, so stop defending the subtle racism in that article.

The lines are always being blurred between legal and illegal "immigrants". Subtle racism? Do you have a crystal ball? Did you not notice the pictures posted of Latinos giving us the finger and the Mexican flag being hung above the American flag? How is it racist to state the "facts" that he stated?

again with these silly threads.

there is very little comparison that can be done here. but lets set a paramater and some definitions first. this thread wants to compare immigrants from 100+ years to illegals of today.

immigration of yesterday:
all you had to do was show up on a boat. undergo a cursory physical eval. be held for a week or two at the most. then you were sent on your merry way. heck you could even assume another identity! didnt like your jewish sounding name, change it. also, the amount of those sent back for health or criminal reasons was very low. all you really had to do was show up.
and with every wave, came complaints from those already here.
they dont learn english. they drink. they urinate in public. they form ghettos. they take our jobs.

fears of the US becoming too italian or "germanized" were prevalent.

immigration (the illegal kind) of today; they just show up.

the only big difference in the ellis island system and the current predicament we are in [w/ re to illi immig] is that back then we had somewhat of an idea of who was here.

if you guys are unhappy now, you would have been unhappy then. by percentage, we had more immigrants in the early 1900's than we do now.

the complaints have been the same about every group. the polish come with their beliefs and refusal to learn english. bla bla bla.

it happens with every wave of immigrants.
the difference is that those boat loads of irish and italians have tapered off. the waves of south of the border emigres hasnt.

Americans were being taxed to death back then to support illegal or legal immigrants.

Except that today the objection isn't to legal immigrants but to illegal aliens.

Many here (me included) would appreciate it if this thread remained on topic, instead of becoming another generic anti-illegal rant thread many here have become.
So please, if you can't add anything TO THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD, please don't post.
Come on people, let's have a rational discussion, this isn't the congress, you don't have to follow party lines and nitpick instead of using arguments.
Yac.
