From the blog: "Anderson at Large."

More than 100 years ago, Booker T. Washington called on the nation to choose black Americans.

In a speech before the Cotton States and International Exposition in Atlanta, Washington said:

To those of the white race who look to the incoming of those of foreign birth and strange tongue and habits for the prosperity of the South, were I permitted I would repeat what I say to my own race, “Cast down your bucket where you are.” Cast it down among the eight millions of Negroes whose habits you know, whose fidelity and love you have tested in days when to have proved treacherous meant the ruin of your firesides. Cast down your bucket among these people who have, without strikes and labor wars, tilled your fields, cleared your forests, built your railroads and cities, and brought forth treasures from the bowels of the earth, and helped make possible this magnificent representation of the progress of the South.

Today, black activists are likewise calling on America to cast aside the allure of seemingly docile illegal aliens. They will take their message to the streets of Los Angeles this weekend.

BTW, it's not just a black thing. The latest Newsweek poll found 63 percent of Americans disapprove of President Bush's handling of illegal immigration.

Indeed, Ted Hayes, chairman of Choose Black America, rejects any comparison between the struggle of black Americans to achieve full citizenship and illegal aliens’ assertion of “human rights” to sneak across the border.

Hayes declared:

The illegal alien agenda is not a civil rights agenda. Forty years ago, black Americans bravely confronted a system that denied them their guaranteed rights as citizens. The illegal alien agenda is an effort to extort rights from the American people that they have not earned and don’t deserve.

We will send a clear message that black Americans will not allow our civil rights legacy to be expropriated by people who have never been denied their rights under the law because their very presence in this country is a demonstration of their contempt for the law. And we certainly will not sit by quietly as illegal aliens fill our jobs, our schools and our hospitals.

Anderson@Large: Choose Black America

I am not a Black American. But I am an American. Ask me who I think illegal immigration hurts the most and I will tell you...it hurts our Black American brothers and sisters. It hurts the poorest of the poor which in this country has been disproportionately Black Americans. Because of the influx of illegal aliens, Blacks are denied not only jobs, but services that our government, which has a habit of going back on it's word (Native Americans anyone?) has promised to those CITIZENS of our nation who are indeed living in poverty.

Section 8 housing has become a housing service for illegal aliens and WIC is being sucked dry by illegal alien women practicing the squat and drop form of citizenship acquisition in our country.

Black Americans did not illegally invade our country. They were brought here violently and against their will. How can America now put them in a position of having to fight for their Civil Rights all over again?

My friend Ted Hayes had more to say about the invasion...

This action by foreign nationals with the consent of and encouragement from their governments is tantamount to a military invasion, except without assault guns, cannons, planes, bombs, tanks, missiles, et al…instead we are confronted with a human weapon of mass destruction of Americans, especially American Black US citizens.

Most poignantly, these foreign nationals have fatally latched onto something in this country that is near and dear to Black US citizens.

Through the erroneous use of the Fourteenth Amendment, Section 1 of the US Constitution, citizens of foreign nations are systematically stealing American Blacks National Identity, Birth and Civil Rights Legacies and Heritages.

The proponents of illegal immigration and amnesty call it their "Anchor-Baby Clause", Choose Black America calls it National, Racial, Ethnic, Identity Theft.

Choose Black America

Aren't Black Americans tired of being lied to? Aren't they tired of being used as political pawns in order for other groups to gain more power?

The Democrats have been using them for decades to advance their agenda. The so called black "leaders" have been using them to garner more power while doing nothing for them. And now the open borders cabal are using them to advance an agenda that will ultimately destroy them

The time is now for black Americans to quit being scared to speak up. White people have been neutered into silence by political correctness. Am I to believe blacks have been as well? No, I don't believe this. But they have been silenced by intimidation, that comes from their own "leaders." What has Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton really done for black Americans, besides filling their own pockets? These same "leaders" march with the illegals while pocketing cash from those same corporations that sponsor La Raza. Our enemies are our fellow Black Americans enemies too. They want us and they want them out of the picture and out of America.

Wake up America! Every single solitary citizen in this country, with the exception of the very rich and the corporations, stands to lose BIG if amnesty is granted to the illegal incursion. If you don't believe that we are truly at war with illegal immigration then go to Save Our State - Home and read about the war which has already begun in Southern California, Los Angeles in particular. We out here in Mexifornia, who are fighting on the front line of illegal immigration, at ground zero of this incursion, feel as if we are the lone voices crying in the wilderness. We need our fellow Americans to step up, get active, and let us know that we are not fighting alone. We must all, every American citizen of every race, creed and color, unite to defeat the annihilation of our country.

Yawn, boring. As much as we need all the support we can get on defeating this amnesty bill, I would rather have none than this race-baiting. Why can't this organization have the same concerns as most of America? They would rather make the point that illegal aliens should not have civil rights because they weren't enslaved or tortured? How about they shouldn't have civil rights because they aren't American citizens. Every issue black America takes up reverts back to Antebellum slavery that was ended over a century ago.

"...We certainly will not sit by quietly as illegal aliens fill our jobs, our schools and our hospitals..."

They are trying to rile up blacks into thinking their welfare, social services, and their black culture will be disturbed by Latin American illegals. If a white group had this type of platform they would be smeared right out of the country. Lame.

(By the way, no offense Kele, your posts are very good and informative.)

JD - You must understand that organizations such as Choose Black America are very necessary in the fight against illegal immigration. Ted Hayes is a great American who has fought against homelessness, not just in the Black community, but for all people. He knows what must be done in order to wake Black Americans up to the very real dangers of illegal immigration. I've known him for several years now, and I trust him implicitly. We cannot win this war against illegal immigration without the support of Black Americans and Ted Hayes and the rest of Choose Black America are in this fight to win.

Until you've walked the streets of South Central L.A., until you've been through what I went through during this march on Saturday, you cannot understand the devastation that illegal immigration is having on the Black community and you cannot understand that they are being lied to by their leaders and by those who are the proponents of illegal immigration. They are being told that the problem is not illegal immigration but "oppression by whitey." They are actively setting the stage for full blown racial division and war in this country and believe me, it will be bad if these groups have their way.

Thank GOD, that there are people like Ted Hayes, Terry Anderson, and the Reverend Jessie Peterson out there telling the story like it really is. I for one, am grateful to them and am proud to stand beside them any day of the week.

Exactly. This argument is made by AMERICANS, of all colors. I am very encouraged that Black Leaders are bringing this issue to Black Americans attention. This is not an issue of Black Americans against illegal aliens, or an issue of White Americans against illegal aliens - this is an issue of AMERICANS against illigal aliens. We need to show solidarity on this issue to keep our country AMERICAN.

EXACTLY, chele123, why can't the black community show solidarity with the rest of Americans on the issue, they'd rather make it a race issue?

Kele- I respect your opinion on this group, seems like you know a lot about them, and I'm sure they are doing what they think is right to bring attention to the issue, I just wonder about some of the tactics they are using.

In the meantime, shamnesty just passed its first cloture vote, proves how oblivious D.C. is to anyone outside of the sheltered bubble of the Senate.

I'm going to try to explain what I mean without stepping in it real deep. I have a problem making complex thoughts clear.
I think it is IMPORTANT that Black Leaders are making this illegal alien problem a Black issue. Because this immigration issue has often been referred to as a race issue it could be overlooked by Black Americans as "not my problem". This is NOT a race issue and to have Black American leaders recognize the problem and bring it to the Black American people seems to me to make it more legitimate to them? Ok, so I probably buthered my attempt, but basically, I am real glad Kele and her friends are doing all they can regarding the illegal alien issue. The more the merrier!

I agree and I also want to add that this solidifies that ALL races and ethnicities have a problem with illegal immigration. You Don't Speak for Me (http://dontspeakforme.org/testimonials.html - broken link) has a similar focus but for Hispanics. Just because these groups are focused on targeting a certain race or ethnicity doesn't mean they are separatist.

Yup, that's what I meant!

I have to tell you J.D., that they are not making a race issue out of this. Ted Hayes has a saying that he lives by and believes...

"There are only 3 colors in America - Red, White and Blue - and those colors don't run."

Ted is doing what is necessary to involve Black Americans in this fight. When I say involve, I don't mean separately and apart from everyone else. He is fighting to bring together a coalition of ALL people and in order to do so, there are some wake-up calls that must be issued to the communities at large. Ted Hayes and Choose Black America are doing just that, as is the organization, You Don't Speak for Me, which is comprised of Hispanic Americans. In many minority communities, the fight against illegal immigration has been seen as a "whites only" fight.

The opposition does everything in its power to show the opponents of illegal immigration as white, xenophobic, nationalist, racists. The organizations I mentioned above, along with many others, are working diligently to show America that Americans of all hues and colors are vehemently opposed to illegal immigration. It is difficult to pull the KKK card with any sort of credibility when faced with the members of Choose Black America, don't you think? Even the liberal L.A. press couldn't swallow that one during Saturday's march, and they look for every opportunity to brand the anti-illegal immigration movement as bigots. These groups have stood solidly with the Minutemen (many members of these coalitions are also Minutemen), FAIR, Save Our State and others. They are not being divisive. They are attempting to bring everyone together and that my friend, is a good thing no matter which angle you look at it from.

The problem with your post JD is that you are not in Southern California, BOTH WHITE AND BLACK POOR, etc. HAVE ALREADY BEEN PUT INTO FURTHER POVERTY AND MISERY BY MASS NUMBERS OF ILLEGALS AND THE MIDDLE CLASS IS GOING INTO POVERTY, VISIBLY! The welfare, social services, social security, rental costs, earned wages, violent crime, medical care, education, have already been severely affected in So. CA by illegal immigration...BOTH Black and White, etc. are hurting daily. This demonstration will be just as much for Whites as it is for Blacks and others, it's for mutual cause. Should not have a problem with a Black man speaking a little about Black history and how illegal immigration explosion is taking them a step backwards.
