I will have to disagree with your first sentence. In many if not most cases the unemployment check pays more than taking a low paying job. With families to raise a person has to take the most he can get nowadays.

Let me guess, demagogued means "too many people don't seem to agree with me that illegals are DESERVING of a blanket amnesty" - tut tut boo hoo.......... Lord I hope I can get my citizenship in time to vote this pretender OUT.............

Cut off the other assistance and watch them disappear.
At that point wages will rise to the point they are acceptable again.
