L.A. County welfare to children of illegal immigrants grows - Los Angeles Times

Payments to U.S.-born children rose to $52 million in July, prompting calls for policy changes

Welfare payments to children of illegal immigrants in Los Angeles County increased in July to $52 million, prompting renewed calls from one county supervisor to rein in public benefits to such families.

The payments, made to illegal immigrants for their U.S. citizen children, included $30 million in food stamps and $22 million from the CalWorks welfare program, according to county figures released Friday by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

This "tough enforcement" thing isn't getting it done. If that is the game plan then it's time we do it and do it correctly. We are rotting from the core out since we allow benefits to people that aren't supposed to be here. And yes I am talking about the anchor kids, no chickens no eggs.

I absoutely agree with you. Don't Live in L.A. County, have homes in Orange and Riverside Counties. But this crap has got to stop now, we need to nip this in the butt and now is the time. No excuses. And get the People out of Office who find this is acceptable, Pelosi's A-- needs to go with the rest of the clowns we have in office.

The fiery national debate over the cost of illegal immigrants and their U.S.-born children will land at the feet of Mecklenburg county commissioners Tuesday night when they discuss a proposal to report undocumented family members of U.S.-born children receiving public benefits.

"We're handing out benefits with a wink and a nod and using 'anchor babies' as cover," James said.

A recent study from the Pew Hispanic Center found the number of U.S. children with at least one undocumented parent went from 2.7 million in 2003 to 4 million in 2008. More than 70 percent of all children of illegal immigrants are U.S. citizens.
