Hate crime victim's estate sues NY authorities - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101122/ap_on_re_us/us_hate_crime_stabbing_lawsuit_3 - broken link)

Our politicians turn a blind eye. Our PD is told hands off. People are angry. Youths made a terrible decision and fatally stabbed an illegal immigrant. They have been tried and convicted.

Now we're being stuck with a $40 million lawsuit. Had our government not taken such a lax approach to immigration law, the victim would never have made it to this country. Our county would not be seeing swelling numbers of illegals and the populace wouldn't be angry.

So, this illegal was going to make $40 million in his lifetime?

Yeah, sure.

This stuff make me want to puke.

Nothing to do with illegals...that is just happenstance. The gang was "bopping beaners". The suit says the cops were looking the other way.

I would doubt the suit has much liklihood of $40 million. But if hands are dirty they will likely settle it for under a million.

It is a shame that the family of a criminal can sue because the police did not do enough to protect the criminal.
Only in America.

And again you misstate the case. He is illegal but is not likely to charged with anything criminal. IN any event a crime has to be proven to cause any penalty.

He was a taxpayer...and as such deserved the same reasonable protection as any other taxpayer.

The irony is that if the police were doing their jobs (to the full extent) then the illegal immigrant would not be here.
Now, I have no sympathy towards the violent criminals here. They should throw the book at those guys who stabbed him to death.
A tough sentence for the killers, but ZERO money to the illegal immigrant

How do you know that he was a taxpayer? It doesn't say that he was hired legally by the dry cleaners. And, if he was then the dry cleaner should face a serious penalty for hiring illegals. Or, the ICE dept. should be held accountable for turning a blind eye. This case shows the depths of our illegal immigration problem.

An excellent post.
In deed how do we know that he was a tax payer?

This will definately be an interesting case to watch. If an illegal alien can sue because he was not protected from criminals....I can only imagine the lawsuits to follow from citizens that have been involved in car accidents with illegals that didn't have license or insurance and the citizen is left holding the bag because ICE didn't protect us from the illegals. Come to think of it, every taxpayer could file suit to recover all taxpayer monies spent on illegals.

Could an African American sue for being attacked by an Hispanic illegal gang member because the police failed to protect him?

It's interesting that you are quite certain he wasn't charged with a crime and that he was a taxpayer. I guess some people just make up the facts as they move along.
