How do liberals sleep at night? I just don't get it.
You have to wonder if they would be cheerleading so much if we were talking about amnesty for all the illegals in England.
This is just back door amensty. And I'm a moderate.

There is something deeply ironic about that last statement considering all the caterwauling about business and industries that have moved wholesale to other countries.

Then the Dept. of Education needs to step aside and stop requiring the dumbing down of our students via setting the bar low for Natrional standards and allow citizen students at the primary and secondary levels to excel rather than hold them back so that those who struggle feel better about themselves!

A GED in Spanish and violating American immigration laws should not be qualifications for American citizenship. I'm a liberal and I'm tired of this nonsense. This bill is nothing more than shameful ethnic pandering by the Dems.

Come to the United States legally with skills and fluent English and you can stay. Fail to fulfill any of those reasonable requirements and you need to leave. This is amnesty and I hope it gets shut down.

Want to "jump the line" of immigration? Move to the US with your son or daughter, age 16. Send them to US highschools on the US taxpayer dime, then off to the community college for two years. Upon completion of the AA degree in sociology and Latino studies, child becomes a citizen, and can sponsor you, and eventually, other family members.

Yay!

Nothing ironic about it at all.

There are many other fixes that are needed, I was commenting on one thing.

What about if there were a special tax that would recover the money spent to educate them when they were here illegally? Would it be okay then?

Because, if that were the case, I think that would be an excellent immigration policy. Open the doors to all countries, and open up an account for each immigrant student. Let them go to school, and if they get into college and go for two years, and get a job, they can be the anchor for their parents.

When they start working, tax them to pay for what they owe on education. Start off small, but increase it as they earn more money. Within two decades, they will have paid off most of this debt. Use the funds to offset the cost of new immigrant students.

Within 20 years, we'll have an amazing population of well-educated immigrants, all bilingual or trilingual. It would be a nation of immigrants - people who want to be here and work hard. This would probably resolve any problems we're having funding Social Security.

Why not use that same money to offer to my children and the other children already in this country legally?

I am sure most would like only having to pay back student loans when they are working and have the payments increase as they earn more rather than the current system that leaves many scraping by when they get out of college.

What would also stop those ILLEGAL immigrants (I capitalize ILLEGAL since so many here may type it but not really put any weight to the word) from getting that education and then possibly heading back to their own country or another country? How are you getting paid back then?

Who is going to be taxed higher while they are going to school and not paying? The American taxpayer.

Who is going to pay to build the extra schools that would be needed? The American taxpayer.

And as always happens with programs like this, who is going to be pushed aside in favor of an ILLEGAL immigrant? The children of American taxpayer.

They sleep on a pile of other people's money and blanketed in self-righteousness.

We already open the doors for a million and a half immigrants every year. What you are suggesting is open borders for anyone who wants to come here under the pretense of gaining an education. Paying for their education is not the issue it is having to build new schools or have ours overcrowded with foreigners. Once they graduate from school they would be competing for jobs against Americans.

Not only would this add to our already burgeoning population growth but now you are suggesting that their parents be able to come also? What about the additional burden on our natural resources and social infrastructures?

In 20 years we will have millions of immigrants in our country speaking several languages? Oh joy! Just what we need a nation of squabbling languages. A nation of immigrants? We don't need to return to a nation of immigrants. We have been a nation of Americans for some time now. Time to lose that ridiculous label because it denotes that we have no identity of our own and must continue eternally to be a nation of immigrants rather than a nation of Americans.

We don't need immigrants legal or otherwise to shore up our SS funds. Putting Americans back to work will do that. We need to get past this generation of baby boomers and stabilize our population growth rather than creating more and more huge baby boomer generations for the future that will just burden our SS funds again.
