It failed by 5 votes because Dirty Harry tried to shove this act through before January 1. If this were to happen on January 31, the numbers would be very different. Or at least I would hope so.

Great news indeed! I was hoping this piece of garbage would fail because no illegal alien deserves to be granted amnesty ... even if they were children, and even if they do go to college or serve in the military. They are still illegal and do not deserve legal status just for existing.

I consider this bill to be similar to the 1986 Amnesty Bill ... that one passed and was signed into law by President Reagan (one of the biggest mistakes of his career). We have seen the negative effects of that legislation, and there shouldn't be any more amnesty. If immigrants want to live in this country, they have every opportunity to do so the LEGAL way.

First we close the anchor baby loop.
We close the bring your entire clan with you clause.
Then we secure our borders very, very well.
We start cracking down on employers in a very hard and serious way.
Then after we are totally secure our nation will not be over run again, We ask those that did graduate from a college and show the government a degree that can be backed up by complete documentation, you can become a green card holder on your way to citizenship.

That would show me, you came and became an educated part of the US society.

Don't give an incentive to come, but an incentive for those already here. If you are here now and you show me a completion of college with a degree.

No green card until graduation with a degree. Not before.

While this is really a great day, the fact that the vote is sooooo close has made me very nervous. I would have hoped and prayed that it would have been more like 1 for and the rest against to send a very clear message that this would never pass. I fear that the closeness of the vote will still give these illegals hope that their enablers will be able to sway those who voted against the Dream Act when it comes up again and I am sure the enablers will make sure it does come up again and again and again until they get their way. In the meantime hopefully, there will be lots of deportations but even that doesn't seem to happen too often.

How do we do that without amending the Constitution to redefine citizenship as something other than someone born here? Do you REALLY want to do that? If so, what definition would you like?

Excellent idea...but, how? We have over 12,000 miles of border, including coasts (more if you include Alaska and our territories). How would you do that? Please be as specific as you can. What resources would you use? Where would they come from? How would you pay for it?

What "sucks" is all the bleeding hearts who believe we owe everybody special favors just for being over here ... especially the lawbreakers. Children who are citizens already have more than enough government assistance which gives them freebies just for existing. Why should we lower ourselves even further and extend all those specialities for those who are here illegally?

In a way you're right about being sick of this country ... although I'm sick of it in different ways. We cater too much to foreigners, criminals, children, breeders, and special interests. People need to quit being so dependent on the government for their bread & butter, and start being more self sufficient. This includes everybody, legal or not. Those who want to become American citizens need to go about it the legal way using the current system. Once legal, they need to better themselves using the free capitalist system, which has eroded a bit, but is still in place for the opportunity to become successful.

This bill was to legalize the children of illegals who were brought to the USA as children. They are foreign born NOT the children of illegals born in the USA.

What's wrong with their nation of origin repatriating them. Giving them legitimate documentation to emigrate legally here?

Why should the USA have to make a blanket bill to legalize them?

The DREAM Act was nothing more than the Latino political lobby spearheaded by Reid to exercise their power.

The fact that it failed speaks volumes. But it only failed by 5 votes. 55 to 41 is not a landslide - it needed 60 votes to pass.

If it had passed (which it did pass in the House) this bill would have legalized the illegal children and given them the power to also legalize their illegal parents and family (backdoor Amnesty) and been a disaster for this nation.
