Politicians and Talk Radio is full of people promoting a huge increase in LEGAL Immigration as a way to limit Illegal Immigration. I do not believe that it will have any effect.

Increasing Legal Immigration will only do the following:

Greatly increase the traffic on our overcrowded roads
Put more pressure on our energy supplies
Overcrowd our schools
Further eliminate open space in our communities
Increase the number of people who do not speak English in our communities
Lower wages for Americans who were born here
Further overburden our government agencies who are trying to do a background check on the current applicants for a Green Card

We currently let more than 1.5 million Legal Immigrants into America a year. More than twice the amount let in before 1986. This is more than any Country in the world. An increase in Legal Immigration in the last 20 years has only caused more illegals not less. What do you think?

No, it won't reduce illegal immigration. It's another way of giving up on the illegal immigration problem. Does this country need more immigrants? Can we afford to have more immigrants? This is like saying there are too many car thefts. The criminals might steal less cars if we give them some cars. What kind of a solution is that?

As long as corporate America owns America's politicians, then the demand for cheap labor will not end. Legalizing illegal immigrants or uping the number of legal immigrants into America will only increase demands on our infrastructure as the insatiable corporate greed for cheap labor will ensure that the glut of illegal aliens from south of the border never ends.

Increasing legal immigration would likely increase pressure for relaxation of all border regulations. The third world is an awfully big place, and America could never hope to accomodate even a tiny percentage of all who might want to come here.
Increased legalization would no doubt cause the illegal-imigrant activists to say, "a-Ha!! If you can do it for THEM, you can CERTAINLY do it for US TOO !" By the way, this rationale is ALREADY being used.."America has ALWAYS welcomed immigrants; therefore it should continue to welcome EVEN MORE. It's not fair to keep ME out, when you already let HIM in last year". This type of statement is now taken as gospel.
Bottom line is, in todays social atmosphere, I think it would backfire....

No, increasing legal immigration would not cause illegal immigration to drop. It would only increase the perception that anyone can come in anytime they want. Which would result in even more illegals coming. We have huge numbers of both illegal aliens and legal immigrants here. Our population has pretty much doubled here in America over the last fifty years. Most nearly all of it due to immigration.

What we need to do is end all immigration immediately. Then after we have comprehensive border security and interior enforcement we let in only those who can contribute to American society. No chain immigration. No extended families. Only educated individuals or people who have the resources that can be used to open up a business.

At this point we have absolutely no control over who comes to this country. We need to shut the door until we get a handle on the situation and then after a great while, only open it for limited numbers of people who demonstrate they deserve to come here. Because if we don't, by the time the next century comes around we will have a billion people here and most will be living in poverty.

Sounds chilling and depressing. I'd like to call it mean-spirited or racist, but I read your post over, and can't find anything like that. What I do find is simple logic - If "situation A" is allowed to continue, it will result in "consequence B"- no meanness, no racism, just simple facts. This is exactly what I've been harping on. If you drop a brick on your foot, it's going to hurt. If you drink Clorox, you're going to get sick. And if you live in a wealthy nation and leave your borders open, you're going to lose control of your society.
Simple facts, simply stated. Not pleasant, but irrefutable nonetheless. You get an "A" for honesty. For "cheerful message", I'll give you a "D minus"...

For other nations, there would be a national consensus as to WHOM should be permitted to enter and why. There is no such thing in this country any longer, as there is no longer any true American business, only global capital that wants to bleed dry the vestiges of the American Republic.

Most, if not all, Germans and Japanese could easily tell you WHOM should and would be permitted entry if the laws were changed. As a society stratified so strongly by race and class, America is unable to make this kind of call.

Increasing legal immigration will only do the following:

Greatly increase the traffic on our overcrowded roads
this would actually increase the number of legal and safe drivers, since the goal is to get all illegal aliens that have any criminal records or felonies out of here
put more pressure on our energy supplies
more and more people are becoming green everyday
overcrowd our schools
schools are overcrowded as is, now that illegal aliens would be to legitimately work, they can pay taxes too, which in return will bring more money to our school system
further eliminate open space in our communities
so should everyone stop having children, or can i suggest that this is just the cycle of life?
Increase the number of people who do not speak english in our communities
by law, if the amnesty comes into effect, anyone who wants to become eligeble must learn how to speak english
lower wages for americans who were born here
it would put the pressure for people to get an education, more business would be build in return more jobs
further overburden our government agencies who are trying to do a background check on the current applicants for a green card
it would be the same overbuden to send back these immigrants to their native lands, in return now you have about 12 million plus immigrants applying for residency, paying fines may i remind, this calls for more government jobs...

Nope. The corporate masters would still find a way to get illegals here because they don't want legal immigrants, then they would have to pay all the 'correct and accurate' taxes. Once illegals gained legal status, they'd lose their jobs and be replaced by illegals. Anyway, ask Spain if they think welcoming everyone under the sun is a good idea. Last I heard, they were trying to buy them out to send them home.

Not to get off topic, but to draw a comparison of sorts - look at all the hoopla surrounding Plaxico Burress for the legal troubles he has. Talking about how he broke the law, the law is the law, and they should throw the book at him for breaking the law. Well, I wish they would apply that same theory talking about every law breaker, yes illegals (ie being illegal means you're not legal) because they broke the 'law'. You don't hear we should have "compassionate sports celebrity gun possession reform" do we. Go figure.
