It's important to end this. There should be no back door around legal immigration laws - that simply coming here and giving birth gets you citizenship and welfare handouts.

Business Groups Object Illegal Immigration Bills

Quote:
A move driven by the Republican party to adopt Arizona style laws throughout the USA has met opposition from some business groups
I keep hearing them saying republicans like business, more if they're big ones.

Yes, what's up with that? I hope the republicans can move this forward and get some stats out there to show what is happening in the ENTIRE country.

14 states may target birthright citizenship - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/14-states-may-target-birthright-citizenship - broken link)

Arizona state Senator Russell will unveil the bill Jan. 5 in Washington, D.C., the Arizona Capital Times reports. The paper says lawmakers in Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Utah have said they want to introduce similar legislation this year.

Pearce argues that the "original intent" of the 14th Amendment was to grant citizenship to freed U.S. slaves, and that it was never meant to apply to the children of foreigners. A Phoenix New Times writer, however, argues that lawmakers who originally passed the amendment took into account the cases of children of Chinese immigrants in California as well as children of gypsies when drafting the measure. A 19th-century Supreme Court precedent also backs that interpretation, though no Supreme Court case has yet dealt with the issue of offspring of illegal immigrant parents.

The ILLEGALS have succumb to the politics of victimization that are used solely and cynically to get their support for the Democrat Party. !

The current state of the U.S. Mexican border is proof of this
along with the blessing of the current administration

A distinction should be made between foreigners and “illegal” foreigners. No person should be permitted to illegally enter this country, and then be rewarded with citizenship for their children. How can Illegal + Illegal = Legal? Also, we must eliminate Birth Tourism. A woman should not be allowed to enter this country for the sole purpose of giving birth to a U.S. citizen. Birthright Citizenship is the greatest travesty of all.

Countries that Grant Automatic Birthright Citizenship (even to illegals and tourists)
Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Cameroon, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Spain, United States, and Venezuela.

The legitimacy of using the 14th Amendment to grant automatic USC to the children born here of tourists and illegals has yet to be tested in the SCOTUS (the 1898 case most often cited of US vs Wong notwithstanding, as his chinese parents, though ineligible for citizenship under the Chinese Exclusion Act, were however residing legally in the USA)
