"Migrants keenly aware of dangers in Santa Cruz County canyons"

Victoria, a 29-year-old migrant from Puebla, Mexico says she’s well aware of the dangers posed by the criminal gangs that stalk the remote canyons of Santa Cruz County.

Though she’s never been victimized herself – she was recently repatriated for the fourth time after trying to cross into the United States illegally – Victoria said she’s heard horror stories from other deported migrants who were attacked by the so-called “border bandits.” And she’s also heard about Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, who was killed in a shootout in Peck Canyon on Dec. 14 while tracking a group of suspected bandits.

“We read about it in the newspaper,” she said, following a meal Wednesday at the Aid Center for Deported Migrants in Nogales, Sonora.

It saddens my heart to hear that criminals have been forced to accept that the life of crime is fraught with dangers.
These bandits most of whom it can be assumed are in the country illegally themselves are preying upon their own as well as our LEO's. Let one of our LEO's use their gun and they will be headline news and condemned for their actions. One is killed because he used non-lethal force and the many flocked to levy blame on a dead officer.
Our first mistake. issueing bean bag guns.
2nd. Issueing 9mm cal. side arms. The 45 is superior round.
3rd. Not enough combat training.
4th and maybe the biggest mistake of all, we all the media to sway our judgment.

Agree on all notes but isn't BP issued .40 smith? That would be much better than a bean bag gun.

The .40 is ok but in my experience 1 shot 1 kill is the .45 acp. LOL the .50 would trump the .45 tho.

I'd just like to remind everyone this isn't the firearms forum, so let's focus on the topic.

Recently repatriated for the fourth time. This is absolute BS. Until our pandering government gets serious and secures our borders, deportation will remain a joke. As a multiple deportee, this woman is a felon. Yet, if caught again in this country, she’ll just be escorted to the border, or flown at taxpayers’ expense, only to return. But, according to Napolitano, our borders are "more secure" than ever.

The 5th time they are caught they go to jail.

Wish the laws I have to live by as an American citizen would give me this type of break.

I agree on all notes Benicar; however when speaking of the lovely Janet, remember she does hail from NEVER NEVER LAND!
