NOGALES, Mexico, Jan 5 Ė A U.S. Border Patrol agent was involved in a shooting on the Arizona border with Mexico on Wednesday that resulted in the death of a teenage boy trying to cross illegally into the United States, Mexican police said.

"At that moment (as he was climbing the fence), a United States Border Patrol agent shot at him, sending him falling onto gravel on the Mexican side," the statement said.

Shot in the back?

News : Mexican teen who died in border confrontation was shot, officials say : Nogales International : Nogales, AZ

The Sonora State Investigative Police, or PEI, said 17-year-old Ramses Barron Torres, who died shortly after 3 a.m. at a Nogales, Sonora hospital, was shot in the back of the right arm, with the bullet continuing into his chest cavity, puncturing a lung, and lodging in the left side of his ribcage.
Earlier on Wednesday, The Associated Press quoted Nogales, Sonora city spokesman Alejandro Palacios as saying that Barron Torres died after he fell from the border fence and hit his head on a rock.
Palacios told the AP that Border Patrol agents fired warning shots in the air after the teen and other youths had illegally crossed the border and began throwing rocks at them. He said none of the youths were shot.

Jimarez said the FBI was leading the investigation. A call placed to the agency was not immediately returned.
Frustrated by tighter security on the U.S.-Mexico border, illegal immigrants and drug traffickers regularly pelt U.S. agents with rocks, take shots and even throw gasoline bombs

dang straight they should be returning fire. Getting hit with a rock in the head will kill you. At night you can't even see where it's coming from. Throw rocks with intent to kill and you might get killed.

Unless there is video we will never know. I am sure however that this will blow over faster in Mexico and get less coverage than in the US where it will become a partisan & politicized issue.

Watch La Raza and MALDEF crucify this agent. What the heck are they supposed to do when attacked? As a mother, I feel for the parents of this teen. However, he put himself in harmís way. Hopefully, this will deter other teens from attempting to enter this country illegally.

One down, a million more to go - unless they wise up and and stop mounting deadly attacks on our law enforcement officers. The officer did nothing wrong and I support his actions fully.

As for the teen, Darwin is proven right again.

If it is an illegal that is killed, you can bet that every network will pick this up and broadcast it everywhere, making Border Patrol look like terrorizing thugs. I am actually waiting for Obama to speak up in this matter and condemn BP for protecting the US.

If it's the opposite, it only gets broadcasted on Fox and possibly a blurb on another network.

So the Mexican police got it all figured out in one day or so, eh? Now they only need to apply that talent to the problems plaguing Mexico - they might solve something.

[wonders how the Mexican police traced the bullet in the boy to the Border Patrol]
