This will be a total failure and a mockery to those who have construed this provision. What happens if they get the race wrong?

They're not being asked what the person's race was......just asked to check a box yes/no if they knew the "suspected?" race prior to pulling them over. Given all the tinted windows these days, I'm guessing it would be mostly a "no" at night.

I am at a total loss as to what possible purpose this can serve. So, if an officer realized the race prior to stopping a speeding car, does that indicate his/her intentions were racially motivated? Should the offender not receive a ticket unless the officer indicates the race was not known in advance?

I couldn't pull the article up (for some reason foxnew.latino will not load on my computer, tried the other day so it is not the link) but am interested in reading it. Whose bright idea was this anyway?

I'm going to guess that they won't be seeing a lot of "yes" on those forms.

Before someone mentioned this is not related to illegal immigration, I believe this law will have a direct impact on the incidence of illegals driving, and the perception of an officer prior to stopping a car. I also believe it will be used to accuse officers of racial profiling involving Hispanic illegal aliens. If not, perhaps it should be moved to an appropriate forum.

It was a video, but here's a link to a text article

Dallas Police must answer

Personally, if I was one of these cops I'd just check the no box every single time, no exceptions. Don't believe me? Then prove it. They can't.

eta: last time I checked "hispanic" wasn't a race btw - why don't they at least be honest and ask if they knew the suspected perp's colour?

and here's a reason it's a stupid question anyway........
