Great story. There are systems like this in quite a few prisons across the United States. The problem isn't with them, it is when the criminals are handed to I.C.E., they generally either 'overlook' them (as in the case of Zina Linnik), or show a strong unwillingness to deport them.

These guys should be deported. If an immigrant commits a deportable crime he has proven he is unworthy of remaining in this country and should be deported.

Another reason for local governments to cooperate with ICE is that once an illegal gets put on an ICE hold the federal government then covers the cost of housing the inmate. Which in many areas can greatly reduce stress on local government budgets.

Deport them and they come back to America to commit more crimes in a week. Keep them in prison.
