Minnesota House Republicans introduced a bill Monday that would prevent cities, counties and other local governments from making laws related to immigration enforcement. St. Paul, Minneapolis and Worthington have ordinances on the books that direct city employees to check the immigration status of their residents only in certain instances and instead leave immigration enforcement to federal officials. These "sanctuary cities" are the target of HF348, which would invalidate those local ordinances.
Does this bill help the nation?
Are only republicans for this?
It helps both the nation and the state. Aiding criminals to evade the law should be a concern when any individual does so, let alone when elected officials do so. It's the state's business since the state has to fund the multitude of services these criminal actions demand. From welfare, to education to medical care, these things land on the backs of the taxpayers of the state, and the federal government. City officials have no business aiding criminals and passing these costs on to others.
Given that it’s a violation of FEDERAL law to aid and abet illegal aliens, the fact that the Feds allow sanctuary cities to exist with impunity speaks volumes. The DOJ has no problem suing Arizona for allegedly usurping federal law, while no action is taken against jurisdictions that flagrantly violate federal law by providing a sanctuary for foreign interlopers. Not only do they ignore these violations, they reward them with federal funds.

Don't you just love it? The DOJ sues a state for enforcing federal law, but sanctuary cities that block application of federal law are somehow ok So, the local police CAN'T enforce federal law under a new state law, but cities CAN not enforce federal law by creating an ordinance. How things wok=rk in this topsy turvy world
it is wrong for 'cities' to sit there and say "its ok" to break the law, and be ILLEGAL
how does a city...just sit there?
it's city officals, leaders and the citizens of that city that decide whats best for that city.
I as a resident of Southcentral Texas, have no right to tell the people of any other city how to run their city. Only through the vote do citizens speak.

More apologetic rhetoric because MY FEDERAL TAX DOLLARS go to the sanctuary cities! So guess what? It is as much my business is it is the local residents of that city

How about the fact that the cities are sitting on federal land? As you remember, federal rights trumpet state rights every time!
