IMHO people operating business in this country shouldn't need to verify a persons immigration status. If they are here it should be safe to assume they belong here and are eligible for employment. At any rate making it a crime to give somebody a job seems pretty rotten given the way our govt has just let the walk in for so very long.

All that needs doing is protecting the border with deadly force & enforcing current immigration laws aggressively. But I guess its better to lock up Americans who MIGHT be benefiting from our govt's negligence.

Don't hold your breath. I read the actual bill more than once.

What part of it don't you understand?

I used to get angry at those who don't get it, but I have realized that unless you look like her and are Mexican-American, it's pretty hard to understand why one would be so against this law. Or if you are married to someone that looks like her, of course.

What you ignore is Arizona's law mirrors current federal law. If your wife wont go to Arizona based on principle because this law upsets her she should just leave the country. Unless you dont belong here this law doesn't effect you at all. Even if it did cause some inconvenience, if you have our country's best interest at heart you would support it being enforced nationwide.

What part don't YOU understand? We can only request immigration status in the course of a POLICE investigation. We are not randomly grabbing people off the street. In the course of an actual investigation, I ID everybody, Please explain to me how this is wrong.

Sure right...and the moon is green cheese.

They do all these things to white or any other colored people.

White bedraggled people wandeing get stopped, White people who offer suspicious names without ID get picked up, white people in a car acting suspiciously will all be asked to produce ID. Granted none of these things are likely to see a legal resident get deported, but it happens all the same.

I will never understand people defending such outright criminal activity. Its not like its a victimless crime. Its a crime against every legal occupant of this country & should be treated as such.

if obama is "getting it done" it stands in contrast to his voting record when he was a senator:

he voted yes to allow illegal aliens to participate in social security
he voted yes on the pathway to citizenship
he sponsored the dream act
he voted yes on providing funding for social services for noncitizens
he voted yes on continued funding for illegal immigrants
he voted no on english as the official language
he sponsored a bill to get a fair prevailing wage for guest workers
he was given an 8 percent rank by USBC, indicating an open border stance.

the problem is that obama tries to take all sides of an issue and just confuses everyone.

1) we saw that recently with his flip-flopping on the egypt situation.

2) we saw this with his anti war talk, winning the peace prize, and then increasing military action in more countries with a bigger war budget than at any time in history.

3) we saw this with his environmental anti drilling rhetoric, but then lending american taxpayer money to brazil's petrobras so that brazil could drill for oil and reap the benefits of energy independence.

4)we saw this with his anti wall street talk and then appointing feinberg as pay czar to "control" the banking bonuses, which actually wound up being the biggest in history. this same feinberg is now controlling the distribution of the BP money. let me add that i just did a little quick investigation into the BP money and found this interesting article:
http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2011/...ution/a3b84un/

with this jaw dropping sentence:
To date only two final settlements for long-term losses — including a $10 million payment to a BP associate the fund refuses to identify — have been paid out. WHAT ABOUT THE TRANSPARENCY WE WERE PROMISED?

5) we saw this with his announcing that we needed to be fiscally responsible and not burden our children and then proposing a 3.7 TRILLION dollar budget.

i could add more, but i am sure that people see what is going on here.

Another Obama "Dog and Pony Show". When you can drive through Los Angeles and not see Illegal street vendors or need a translator to speak to merchants and when there aren't thousands of Illegal; Aliens holding rallies in the middle of tghe City it might be believable.

He has inherited the failures of the past Administrations and is currently FAILING at this issue also, just look at his Administrations lawsuits against Arizona for doing the job he should be doing and NO ONE in their right mind would believe he will seriously tackle this issue.

Just like the Illegal Aliens , Obama wants to pick and choose which laws to enforce and follow and that equals FAILURE.

For Obama to succeed He needs to deport ALL Illegal Aliens apprehended not some. All employers need to be forced to follow the law, not a few. Promises to Dreamies, Illegal Aliens, Foreign Leaders and the Hispanic Community is just out and out Political Pandering.

Just ask Nicky Diaz who after working for Meg Whitman and afterwards made numerous Television appearances aknowledging her Illegal Alien status for the entire Country to hear, and even after Napolitano spoke to Bill Oreilly and promised him on National TV that she would personally look into her, what has happened???

Nothing, just more talk, lies and half a**ed BS fom the Obama Administration.

He has properly identified the magnitude of the problem, and said that the undocumented population is exploding. Obama recognizes that immigration raids are ineffective, netting only 3,600 arrests in 2006. Obama's priority is to stop the current way of illegal immigration into the United States, and then deal compassionately and fairly with the illegal immigrants who are already living here. If the flood of new immigrants can be slowed considerably, Obama believes that those currently living here, over time, can be effectively absorbed into the population and the economy.

You can partially scratch Washington off that list.

Previously, a social security number was not required for Basic Health eligibility in Washington, but a new federal waiver providing federal matching funds subsidizing the Basic Health and Disability Lifeline programs does require the SSN or documented legal immigration status.

Amazing how a lack of huge pile of money changes things, ain't it. Bascially, No more illegal immigrants getting free health care. If you want them to have it, States, well you'll just have to pay for it yourself.

Short-term budget cuts $236 million Washington state spending - Spokesman.com - Feb. 19, 2011

I can see what he's doing. He's trying to cut them off at the teat. Only problem is ...dum dum dum.... there's still free health care.

Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)[1] is a U.S. Act of Congress passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). It requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care to anyone needing emergency healthcare treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. There are no reimbursement provisions.

Guess that just means everyone else's health care costs goes up. Those that can afford to pay, pay for those who can not. Wow. Who thought up that plan? In 1986?

U.S. deported record number of illegal immigrants - Los Angeles Times

The Obama administration deported a record number of illegal immigrants in the 2010 fiscal year, according to figures released Wednesday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Of the 392,862 deportations from October 2009 through September of this year, about half were illegal immigrants with criminal records. The total was about 3,000 more deportations than the record set in the previous year.

The second straight year of record deportations from the U.S. reflects the approach of ICE under the Obama administration to focus its efforts on removing criminal illegal immigrants "who pose a national security or public safety threat," Homeland Security Deputy Press Secretary Matt Chandler said in a statement.
More than 195,000 criminals were deported in 2010, a 70% increase over 2008 in the forced removal of immigrant criminals.

There may be some confusion. The link you provided was a resource manual "Immigrant Access to Health Benfits". In the manual it speaks to the 1996 PRWORA[act] eligibility of "qualified immigrants"; not "undocumented immigrants". The manual restates that "undocumented immigrants" prior to PRWORA... and to date, are allowed "Emergency medical Treatment"[EMTALA 1986]. This does not change and States are not allowed to to change this federal law[EMTALA 1986].

"Medically Needy" refers to a classification of "qualified immigrants"

States have the option...and have had the option, to dis-allow "qualified immigrants" from recieving Medicaid benefits since [PRWORA]1996.

In the case of Washington state[and all other states], only "qualified immigrants" are eligible for Medicaid benefits; so SSNs or other qualifing documentation is being asked of qualified recipients. If "undocumented immigrants" are on the Health benefit role, then adminstators of the program, have violated the Federal Medicaid requirement rules under PRWORA 1996.

Until then it just makes you look ignorant or stupid, you choose.

No wonder our country is going down the tubes.
There are roughly 3 million illegal aliens of european or asiatic nationality.

Roughly 2/3 the size of the Mexican contingent.

How is 3 million equal to 2/3 of 12 to 20 million? In the math I know that adds up to between 1/4 & 1/5th.
How many of them are actively involved in human & drug trafficking?

I'm against ALL illegal immigration but trying to compare 3 million of mixed ethnicity to 12 to 20 million is stupid. We wouldn't be having this discussion if there were only 3 million illegal Latinos here.
