They don't want "anything for free" - just for taxpayers to subsidise the $17,900 per year difference between out of state and in state tuition

Quote:
"As a student, I don't ask for anything for free," Perez said. "We just want what's in our rights. We won't be taking anything away from anybody ... We want to give back to the community."

Did you read this line?

Note: Jesus Perez and Susana Flores were interviewed in Spanish and their comments translated to English.

What college does Perez plan to earn his degree from if he doesn't understand English? I suppose he'll want taxpayer provided interpreters as part of his "rights." These people are completely ridiculous. This is NOT Mexico with better economic opportunities. The American taxpayer does not pay taxes so Mexican nationals can have potentially better lives.

Both of them should shut up, stop making demands on Americans and go home.

That’s an excellent question. Also, I wonder how he managed to graduate from high school without English, or how he took the SAT.

I have to wonder about that. If you speak English and you know the story is going to run in an English publication why would you speak Spanish? Would you simply have faith that the reporter will translate your exact words accurately?

It would not surprise me if the truth were as simple as neither speaks English particularly well. The illegal migrant lobby is really about "rights" which assume the form of demanding unearned things (the right to skip the line, the right to collect welfare from the American taxpayer, the right to drive without insurance) and not at all about responsibilities like English fluency or paying taxes.

Maybe it's more to do with the politician's favourite of "plausable deniability"? As in, oh I never said that it was mistranslated........

Another point is that many Hispanics legal or illegal are adamant about speaking Spanish in public rather than English. To me it just shows a defiance against totally assimilating into our country.

Where did that 18K figure come from? Is that MIT Engineering or Harvard Law?

BTW...paying a In-State rate is not a subsidy. Taxpayers are not paying the difference. The institution is charging the student at the In-State rate. The institution does not bill the State for payment of the difference.

Now if the state offers scholarships, that is a subsidy.

Who do you think provide the funds for the states, if not taxpayers?

the fate of the bill has huge financial implications: the difference between $7,100 for in-state students and $25,000 for out-of-state ones
$25,000 - $7,100 = $17,900. There's your subsidised by the taxpayer's amount. If other (legally here on visas) foreign students have to pay the higher rate, why shouldn't those here illegally who are ALSO foreign to this country. Why exactly should foreign nationals in this country illegally be entitled to receive a lower rate than out of state LEGAL residents and USC for that matter?
