SALT LAKE CITY — Several Latino groups are calling on their community to not shop at any Utah stores for two weeks in protest of an enforcement-only illegal immigration bill.
HB497 requires police to check the immigration status of people they arrest for felonies and serious misdemeanors. Officers may check the status of those suspected of less serious misdemeanors.
In other words, Utah Latinos oppose even checking the status of felony suspects. What happened to, “We only want the ‘real’ criminals deported?”
Obviously, they don’t want the immigration status of ANY Latino questioned, regardless of the severity of the crime, or the threat they may pose to society. All of the whining over SB 1070, and accusations of racial profiling, was nothing but pure BS.
This law also includes an amnesty provision. Yet, the ingrates are still not satisfied. Apparently, the law is flawed, unless Utah disregards the presence of illegal miscreants.
They should've taken it further and boycotted the US entirely by leaving and returning to Mexico. That'll teach us!
