This is disgraceful. According to the report, 80 agents have been arrested in the past 5 years. One agent received $5 million for her “services.” Is there any wonder why illegal aliens and illicit drugs flow freely into this country? If MSNBC is reporting this, you know it must be bad.

While much has been reported about widespread corruption in Mexican law enforcement, U.S. authorities are finding a disturbing trend: an increase in American law enforcement officials corrupted by wealthy Mexican drug traffickers who pay them to look the other way.

No wonder our borders are not secure. We have foxes guarding the hen house.

To try to stem the corruption, President Obama recently signed a law requiring polygraph tests for all border patrol and customs law enforcement job applicants. Additionally, thirteen FBI anti-corruption teams now keep an eye on the 2,000-mile-long border, policing the police.

Corrupt cops and cops-on-the-take need to be routed out but it's a problem that goes back past Serpico and Prohibition - so I'm not optimistic.

This is a national security issue and these corrupt cops are traitors collaborating with the enemy (the drug cartels). As such any US Border Patrol agent or US Customs officer found taking bribes from smugglers or the cartels, passing intelligence to the cartels, or knowingly allowing illegals and/or drugs to enter the United States should be executed.

I don't think it's that the cartels are corrputing border agents but that the cartel members -- already very corrupt -- are being hired by US border patrol and customs agencies.

That's what the cartel did to take power in Mexico, they infiltrated their law enforcement agencies. They gained inside information for the purpose of the cartel.

Thatís a frightening thought, but probably true. Who knows how many cartel members are employed by our government. Soon, our country will be as corrupt as Mexico, if not worse.

I always wonder how drugs are distributed throughout the entire US, I find it very hard to believe that is using small time criminals once it crosses the border... the same cartels must be running the operation and are already in the US together with corrupted police/government members

The major Mexican cartels all have their own transit corridors within the US.

The cartel leaders are smart but extremely greedy. They will do anything for money. They love money more than they love their own children, they don't have a problem with thousands of people being killed already because the money is all that matters to them. They are the most evil people on this earth. They will do absolutely anything for money, and they are not stupid. They have already infiltrated and they control many politicians here and keeping the border open is definitely their agenda.

The cartel has it's members on both sides of the border. They have trucking companies along the border, they own warehouses and stash houses. Uncontrolled illegal - and legal immigration has helped them establish vast networks throughout the entire USA.

Juarez is the biggest cartel controlled border city and they can get big shipments up through Mexico and into Juarez warehouses and then over to El Paso. Truck companies in New Mexico and Texas - often small and immigrant owned can then run the drugs around the inside border checkpoints. Mexican bus lines operate freely throughout the USA and can also carry big packages. Passenger cars are used for smaller loads.

The cartel controls visa selling, and the US consulate in Juarez has been known for years to be involved with visa selling. There was a fairly recent case where the killers of the US consulate employee even said they were hired by the Juarez cartel because visas were being sold to the other cartel, cartel members have no problem buying legal visas to relocate to the USA. Cartel businesses have been established in US border cities for money laundering and to further infiltrate the USA.

Most of the ICE agents are honest and hard working but the cartel has its own members employed in US customs and border patrol. They will inform the smugglers when it's the right time to pass illegals and drugs over. They will inform them of scheduled breaks and lunches.

The whole reason that the cartels are fighting so furiously over Juarez is because Juarez-El Paso is such a lucrative drug and illegal corridor. It takes corruption on BOTH sides but we like to blame it all on the Mexican cops and agents. However the same drugs and illegals leaving Juarez are coming into El Paso. It's not just drugs, it's stolen vehicles, chop shops and used auto parts, weapons, illegal laser visas, a huge criminal enterprise.

If control over the border was taken from the cartels in Juarez, there would be no more reason for the cartels to fight over Juarez.
