I'm not pro-illegal immigration by any means, but 2 million is a stretch. In the city itself I'd say around 300-400k. While it's true that there isn't much of a middle class left in the city, illegal immigration isn't soley to blame. It's just too damn expensive to live in the city for most people nowadays compared to the 80s and 90s, and you have the situation that you have now where the city is mostly either affluent(more half of them are transplants or talented/educated immigrants) or poor and on some kind of public assistance(half of them are legal/illegal immigrants). The only thing that keeps the entirity of the Bronx and Brooklyn from gentrifying is crime. Hipsters and yuppies wonder why their's hostility from minorities/ethnic communities about them moving into their hoods, but working class folks get priced out of their own neighborhoods once the people with money start flowing in.

I am not conservative (not liberal either) and also believe that illegal immigrants are leaches on our society. I do feel that they are exploited but really I don't feel that bad for them since they are breaking the law by being here in the first place.

That's a pretty big percentage. How far can they get in the labor market if they haven't even graduated high school ? These folks will never make it past min wage.

That is possible.
I also consider Dutch, Danish and Swedish employers better then American employers, but what can I do? I live in the US and have to cope with American reality. If there was no massive illegal immigration, this question wouldn't have been raised...

Typical liberal mentality. Oh No! Someone is breaking into out nation and breaking our laws and someone is exploiting them! We must put an end to the exploitation!
If you knew me at all you'd know I'm not liberal. I was agreeing that it makes for a situation for them to be exploited. I think that is just a fact. I don't agree with allowing them to be here at all. I'm from Phoenix and have seen first hand how it has changed that city and not for the better.

OK, you are the second person to misunderstand where I am coming from with what I said. It is easy for illegals to be exploited. I think it is just true and I don't see how anyone could say otherwise. I do not believe that illegals should be allowed to stay here or come here in the first place. Americas citizens do have to be considered first.

The best solution would be to fix Mexico. What if Mexico to treated its citizens better so they wouldn't want to leave in the first place?

Please stop referring to human beings as illegal. They are people. That is all.

4) Fill the newly vacant position with someone unemployed and receiving government entitlements.
It's not a bad idea except for number 4. Would they want to give up their unemployment check and government entitlements and on top of that now they have to work? Easier said than done.
