This sentence (and the unbelievable arrogance behind it) is exactly why so many of us find illegal migrants and their supporters so utterly distasteful.
Don't you dare come to my country (especially without permission!) and advocate in favor of policies that put the average person at a disadvantage. We have enough to do without adding learn Spanish to that list. No native should ever be told to learn another language solely to cater to monolingual criminals.
It is the height of rudeness to move to another country without at least basic fluency in that country's dominant language. If you cannot speak English you should hire an interpreter. Demanding that others learn Spanish because you are a lazy moron is simply unacceptable.

It is rude not to learn the heritage & culture of the country you are immigrating to.
Even more rude for an illegal to disrespect us and tell us what language we should speak. The nerve!!

That mentally is that of illegal aliens and their offspring - oh and the bleeding hearts too. What can you expect from people who don't even respect our laws in the first place?
I find it awful and immigrant father, uncle and aunt would say the same thing. And they are not the only ones.
The company I work for provides services for Home Health Agencies and most of those Agencies are run by foreigners. Some Russian, some African and a few from other countries in Europe. They ALL speak English. ALL OF THEM. Some of them have a very strong accent but they speak our language nonetheless. They have my respect.
Do you feel that businesses should check immigration statuses of their customers?
Do you feel that businesses should assume that anyone they conduct business with who prefers to do so in Spanish is an illegal immigrant?
Spanish is the 3rd most widely spoken language in the world, so not really.
Are you changing the scope of the topic? We are talking about illegal immigrants refusing to learn English.
We have call centers that have specialists that speak many languages as they do business outside our borders. That is completely different from teaching Spanish as a requirement in our schools, etc.
A business like K-Mart shouldn't be requiring their employees to know Spanish to get a job. If these businesses are they should be sued for discrimination.
It gives a job to the person with the skills needed to do business.
I work in a company whose employees are about 97 % mexican. The majority do not speak English. We need translators for everything here. I cannot get a promotion here because of the fact that I do not speak Spanish and therefore would not be able to lead. I have over 15 years experience in my field, and have more skills than I should, but still can't move up? How is this right?
Oh yes it does! Employers are requiring bi-lingual Spanish speakers now to communicate with illegal alien customers. That would mean that mono-English speaking Americans are being discriminated against in hiring practices. A foreign langauge is not a tech skill. It is the hands on experience for a particular job that is. We aren't talking about doing business with a foreign country or working in the travel industry.
English is the language of this country, not Spanish.

It should be a requirement in an English speaking country.
I get called racist every year because I won't learn to speak spanish. My response is that I am not racist, but feel that I should not have to learn how to speak spanish to work in an American, English speaking company.
I usually just counter with: If I moved to Mexico today, not knowing how to speak spanish, would I be able to get and hold a job? NO. And not 1 person has disagreed with me after pointing this out. They usually just say that I am absolutely right and drop the subject.
