Feds: All kids, legal or not, entitled to K-12 ed - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110506/ap_on_re_us/us_immigration_students - broken link)
MIAMI – The U.S. Department of Education sent a letter to districts around the country Friday, reminding them that all students — legal or not — are entitled to a public education.
I disagree. Why should illegals be entitled to services taxpayers provide?
All kids should be entitled to a K-12 education - IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. If they're here illegally all they should be entitled to is a trip back where they came from. I wonder how many schools are overcrowded and preventing American children from getting the education they are entitled to because of this?

So, only Legal Permanent Resident or U.S. citizen children should be able to attend school in the United States?...
Ok, story goes that my stepchildren were on their "non-immigrant" K-4 visas when we first enrolled them in school here. I owned the house since six years prior to my marriage, and paid property tax all that time with no children. Were we supposed to wait until the kids got their residency to put them in school?

No. A K-4 is a valid visa and I have no beef with your stepkids being enrolled in a public school.
We're talking about illegal immigrants, not children on "non-immigrant" visas that will convert to immigrant visas. I know a lot of people go the "non-immigrant" visa route to speed up the reunification process.
