"It is with great wonderment and sadness that we listened to your May 10 speech on immigration issues. All of the joking about moats and alligators cut residents of Portal, AZ, to the core as we sheltered with friends or at a Red Cross evacuation site, to survive a terrible fire that still threatens our lives and property, as well as our ecotourism-based economy".

His flippant attitude was appalling. Rather than joking about the border, he should have addressed this issue with the honesty and sincerity it deserved. As our president, he should have assured the residents living on the border of his steadfast determination to protect them from harm. Sadly, he chose to use the occasion to ridicule citizens who have the temerity to expect our borders to be secured.

Yes, I notice he has nothing to say about the 2 border patrol agents who lost their lives this week defending our country.

This is part of the reason why I want to take away the president's executive powers and relegate the position to that of a largely ceremonial head of state.

This jackass is outright offensive with his jokes about alligators and moats. People have been murdered by illegal immigrants and drug cartels, families have had their livelihoods ruined because drug cartels have rendered their ranches into no-go areas. We had a woman here on Long Island who was practically beheaded by an illegal immigrant because she refused to go on a date with him - this guy had been stalking her for months and finally kidnapped, raped, and murdered her one day. Entire communities have been ruined. But yet all he cares about is getting more votes and throwing a few cheap jokes at his political enemies.

I agree with you Benicar, as usual. His attitude stinks really, he is arrogant and pugnant. Instead of attacking this problem with conviction, what does he do, or should say, what he does not do. What kind of President acts as this one does, what kind of President ridicules and jokes about others, at quite an expense, he is a joke, that is how i see it.

Don't ever expect to see an improvement with our border problems as long as this Preisdent is joking about the problems we do not have.

Have any of you actually lived in a Texas/Mexico border city before? I can tell by reading these posts that none of you have. If you think there is some sort of large group of opposition to his speech, you are sadly mistaken. Apparently, there are 20 or 30, which of course is enough to justify Fox News running with it and making it in to a "news story".

Try the majority of this country rather than on the border where many are ethnocentric advocates. How would you know anything about the border since you live in Boston?

I have friends that live in Laredo. Both husband and wife are in law enforcement and are afraid for their lives. They are Hispanic so don't play the race card. They want to move farther north but can't until they can convince their 90 year old mother to move with them as her health isn't well. She refuses to give up her home to renegades.
