Many, if not most, countries issue IDs to all citizens and they are required to present them upon being asked by law enforcement personnel. As mentioned above, the Italian Carabinieri and the Polizia di Stato create checkpoints for the sole purpose of checking IDs.

Everyone does. If they don't they are lying.
I always carry my ID...all 3 of them...no matter what. I'd hate to get in a very bad car accident for example and not be able to be ID'd. Might sound silly but I've seen it happen before.
And if law enforcement wants to look at them, go ahead.
Question: What if someone whips out a fake ID? Those need to be exposed on the spot otherwisewe're wasting manpower
It happens once in a while you have some people with fake ID's, but soon they will be caught.
