I know some Native Americans that would argue that point. Spanish has been spoken in my neck of the woods longer than English too. English is the later foreign language.

The point is that he knew how to speak English and he was speaking in a setting with mostly English speakers one of which was a state senator. There is a time and place for everything. This wasn't the time nor the place to expressing one's self in a foreign language even though it might be "native" to him since he knew how to speak English.
That means when Native-Americans are speaking in their native languages they are speaking a foreign language in their own country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't you agree that this would've been a time to make sure you knew exactly how to express yourself if you were in his shoes?

Is speaking English like a light switch? Either on or off, you are completely fluent or you're mute; or is it more like a dimmer switch? Do you know how much English he actually knew, especially in regards of the context of where he was at?

What is the de facto national language of this country? All others are foreign languages regardless of what is spoken in your neck of the woods.

When someone has been in this country for over 20 years (especially if they aren't an old person) don't you agree that they should be fairly fluent in English by now?

Why would you assume that he wasn't able to communicate well in English after over 20 years of being here? Yet the pro-illegals claim that Hispanics are assimilating? This certainly isn't an example of it, if he couldn't communicate well in English after 20 years.

My state has it specifically written in its Constitution that there is no "official" language here. Same for the Native American dialects. They aren't "foreign languages", and one helped the United States to win a war.

I still don't understand why you even care about this guy.

You only care about THE LAW... this guy hasn't broken any. he's here legally and english is not the official language of the US.

You don't care about how people talk... but this guy has you wound up.
