If that actually is the case, then, there's still no reason to try to demonize them because they're motivated by money.

Question. What defines quickly? 1 month 1 year 1 decade?
How fast would any of us mesh in a foreign land? I want to be fair about this.
I live with a Thai woman. I go to Thailand every year. I intend to move there when I retire. I speak the language fairly well. Well enough to get my point across most the time. Those ng sounds as well as soft k hard k combinations are rough. So what is defined as quickly. I would think 5 to 10 years is fair.

Assimilation isn't just about learning the langauge. I couldn't care less if an immigrant speaks English with an accent just that they make the effort to learn it and to use it. I am sure when you go to Thailand you speak their language and I commend you for that.

As for the other aspects of assimilation, in this country all ethnic groups are equal and should be treated equally as long as the individual is here legally or is a citizen. However, when one puts their ethnic group above our laws to me that is not assimilation to what we stand for.

I would "mesh" in 3-6 months or I would be on my way home. I couldn't imagine having so little curiousity that I wouldn't want to learn some of the language and get around on my own. My attitude would be that if I wasn't cut out for learning something of that country, then I should come back to where I fit.

I don't need to a study to tell me that.

All I have to do is go to the grocery store and buy a bottle of shampoo, or some frozen dinner or call any 1800 number.
