I'm kinda curious what the prevailing opinion in this forum is on the subject of the children of illegal immigrants, aka anchor babies. Naturally, given the prevailing opinion around here, I need to refer to them in the most pejorative term possible. Anyway, I am particularly interested to hear from those whose only beef with illegal immigrants is that they broke the law and who have no issues with the race, language, culture, etc. of legal immigrants. I mean, there are a lot of people here who love people of all races and creeds, but they also love they also love the law.

Edit: I should add that option B refers to all current, living anchor babies. If the law changes, then people born to illegal immigrants after that date will be subject to the new law.

Needs more differentiation between options 2 and 3.

True. Append, "I think current law regarding the citizenship status of children born in the US is fine," to option 3. There are only so many words that can be fit in a poll.

Even if option #1 was a reality (which it never will be), they would just hop the fence and come back over anyway. I chose option #2. The bleeding has to stop somewhere, but the Constitution is still the law of the land. All we can do is close the loophole, deport the ones here illegally, and solidify our borders. Easier said than done.

Was Mitt Romney an anchor baby? Serious question.

Anchor baby: mom AND dad are illegal aliens.

Id say keep the anchors who are 18 or older as American but cut loos the younger ones.

I probably go with the third option - or the first.

Anchor babies are also eligible for the citizenship of their parent's country so there's no real problem for them if they go home with their parents. In fact Mexico has just redefined it's immigration laws and clearly makes these people legal in that country if their parents are from there.

If they are adults and are US citizens, then they can choose to stay here or go. Minor aged children are another matter and there should be an attempt to keep them with their parents - so when the parents go home, they should take their children with them even if it means the loss of food stamps and other government handouts. If they are intent on abandoning their US born children as many apparently are, then the children could be put up for adoption, just like other abandoned children are.
