The $21.5 billion figure is so exaggerated that it's not even funny. It used to be that right-wing activists were floating figures of 9 or 11 billion. This time they are seriously trying to push the limits of sanity. Though am I surprised that Fox would distribute those absurd numbers nationwide? Not at all.

Here's a reference for you:

State savings for cutting illegal immigrant services exaggerated - Sacramento Politics - California Politics | Sacramento Bee (http://www.sacbee.com/2011/02/06/v-print/3381044/state-savings-for-cutting-illegal.html - broken link)

It does not mention schools, which probably spend on the order of $2 billion/year educating children of illegal immigrants.

On the other hand, it does not mention payroll and sales taxes paid by illegal immigrants, corporate income taxes paid by big agricultural corporations employing them, and savings you get at the grocery store because people who grow and pick your veggies are paid $3/hour.

Think this through, logically.

Most illegal immigrants don't make enough to pay income taxes. Certainly not if they are making $3.00 an hour and they certainly aren't if they are making $40,000 a year and have four or five children.

Many of our big agricultural companies recieve subsidies. I don't know what the net difference is. It is just something to consider before making a random statement about how much they pay. Some pay taxes, others receive subsidies.

You save at the grocery store and you pay more in taxes, or as of lately, recieve less services. Either way the taxpayers pay for them with large employers being the beneficiary out of the deal.

By both Federal and California labor laws, everyone, including illegal immigrants, must be paid minimum wage. Chances are if a farmer is 1) hiring and illegal immigrant and 2) paying $3.00 an hour, he isn't bothering to collect social security number or withhold payroll taxes. This means no payroll taxes are being paid in this case.

Do you really believe the amount of sales taxes illegal immigrant pay comes anywhere close to covering the cost of educating their children and providing social the other social services they receive? Think this out. If one of them earned $30,000 a year and spend all of that on sales taxable items the sales tax would be $2,400 a year, assuming an 8% tax rate. How many days do you think that pays for?

Simple solution... You support illegal immigration and a bunch of people like you do .. You and only you guys pay for it.. They are such a net positive to society (or so you say) .. enjoy carrying them on your backs .. Ask people to put their money where their mouth is and you quickly find how fast they shut up. . You have your opinion .. others have there's . IMo, you pay for your opinion and I'll pay for mine. Quick and dirty solution to it all.

That article claims $500 million a year in cash-aid to illegal immigrants in the state as a whole.

An article in the Los Angeles times claims $570 million in welfare and food stamps last year in Los Angeles County.

Rise in public benefits to children of illegal immigrants in L.A. County has supervisor 'very concerned' - latimes.com

The difference may be "cash-aid" vs other benefits, or the Los Angeles figure includes both cash-aid and food stamps, but I'm going with "welfare" includes cash-aid. Either way, this is the problem with biased reporting (on part of the Sacramento Bee). Only stating the cash-aid figure with a heading of "Welfare" makes it appear as if the cost is much less than it is. After reading the figures from the Los Angeles times article and considering the costs of illegal aliens in Los Angels County, the figures in the Sacramento Bee's article appear doubtful. Either way, I look at it as an additional $500 million was cut from the CSU system so illegal aliens can receive cash-aid.

Personal Current Transfer Receipts Examples

Medicare
Medicaid
Food Stamps
Social Security
Unemployment Insurance

---- Transfers in .. Transfers out

According to CBS News, the poverty rate for children is expected to shortly hit 25 percent, making this the largest group of children to suffer since the Great Depression.

U.S. Food Stamp Use on the Rise - Real Time Economics - WSJ

A nation in decline .. Among other wastes of money :
U.S. cost of war at least $3.7 trillion and counting | Reuters

You have to wonder what the populous of this country has been doing while their hard earned money and childrens futures are being pissed down the drain ...

A continuing trend underscores the plight of Americans : Wasteful government .. Yet people keep thinking more and more of it .. is the solution .. More handouts and sympathy is the solution .. Lets feed/educate and take care of some of the poorest people from some other country when we can't even take care of our own...
Meanwhile 25% of U.S's kids (higher than the freaking depression are slipping into poverty) .. chicago seems like a scene from GTA w/ mobs of kids robbing tourists/people/stores for things like food ..

I blame the Americans who say .. Hey, I got mine who cares and don't get involved.. who ignore the people pointing out problems and tell them to stop complaining.. go hiking .. go sniff some sunflowers.. It's fine though.. eventually the sh*t storm will end up in their backyards and they can beat the savages w/ sunflowers .. hehe

People live in la-la land until reality smacks them in the face.. People are diehard spend liberals until the money runs out ...
When harsh reality comes to visit they'll pay for their folly + interest.

For now though.. California kids will get a taste of what paying for illegal immigrants is like :
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...,5070331.story
UC seeks to raise tuition another 10%
Regents will consider a nearly 10% increase for the fall, on top of an 8% increase that had already been approved. The added $1,100 per undergraduate would offset a $150-million state funding cut.

California's future brightest can get to work now on paying for their liberal agendas and illegal friends . LOL

Average wage in the fields is closer to $15.00 an hour, comparable to Federal Wildland Firefighters, and paramedics, piece work can pay up to $25.00 an hour.

Not in California, aside from socialized taxpayer supported water in the Central Valley. I do like that, growers are overwhelmingly good patriotic Republicans, getting socialized water.

You save at the grocery store and you pay more in taxes, or as of lately, recieve less services. Either way the taxpayers pay for them with large employers being the beneficiary out of the deal.

Your two sentences don't make much sense, I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Growers don't hire field workers, all standard withholdings are withheld by the employer. No grower is paying $3.00 an hour.

Field workers, illegal or legal pay all taxes you or I pay. Neither the grower nor the contractor knows who is illegal or not.
The California Ag industry is a $40 billion dollar business, if you eliminate the illegals with finding a replacement, you will crash that industry, as Georgia is learning now.

Illegal aliens do the work that residents refuse to do. Despite a 15%+ unemployment rate, you don't see US citizens working the fields in the Central Valley. Yes, there are one off cases of crime from illegals, but when you look at that many people, of course you are going to get a few bad apples.

The real problem is the government pension system. For example, a firefighter or policeman can retire in their early to mid 50s and earn their full salary for the remainder of their life. While I appreciate the work that these people do, I don't think the pension system is sustainable. Corporate America long ago did away with pensions and had employees fund their own 401ks (possibly with a small amount of matching contributions). Government should follow suit. Also, while salaries have stagnated in Corporate America, salary increases have continued to be the norm in government. An overhaul of the government system is necessary to reduce the deficit.
