In any case, illegal aliens are not just picking lettuce and digging ditches any more. It wasn't that long ago that being a dry-waller, brick-layer, house framer, painter, roofer, carpet layer, plumber, or electrician was a decently compensated, middle class trade. Now it is increasingly becoming the work for illegal aliens at far less than the free market rate. While illegal alien workers are only a small portion of many of those job categories their willingness to work at dramatically lower rates artificially drags down the compensation for all workers.
The author doesn't know much about economics I'd guess. We don't have a free market on labor. The wages for those jobs have been artificially inflated due to immigration barriers that artificially limit the supply of labor.
So you've got a self-published study from a guy with no apparent credentials.

I should have thought it would be self evident to those who pay attention to what is going on in this country. The guy next door had Mexicans working on his addition - not Americans. Now, I can't say whether they were legal or not, but in any event I know the guy next door is cheap and would hire the cheapest labor.
Also, many of the jobs now require one be bilingual and preference is given to those who are. Since many employers do things under the table, so to speak, this is also adding to the problem.

Again, it's a given that if a person will work for $3 an hour that is the person someone will hire. This drags wages down.
