If that was my only choice, I'd work in the fields. Nobody is too good for manual labor.

There are plenty of people on welfare who can pick crops. Any able bodied man living in a home that receives welfare should absolutely be required to take whatever job is available. There's no reason taxpayers should be supporting full grown men who are able to work. If that were done, there'd be no need for illegal alien field workers. Realistically, prices might raise a few cents per pound, certainly not dollars.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed the price of produce going down since the big influx of illegal aliens?

There are many other factors that affect the price of food besides the cost of labor.

exactly.

when did it become the responsibility of all taxpayers to come up with individual business profit plans?

the government's job is to enforce the law and we would appreciate it if the government did its job.

So if I'm a farmer, I should be able to offer crop-picking jobs for $6/hour or whatever minimum wage is, and I should be able to "draft" unemployed people to fill those jobs even if they'd rather be looking for work they're more qualified for?

I see nothing that could possibly go wrong with this plan.

you are bringing up 2 separate issues.

the first, you asked what america plans to do about a farm that can't find enough workers. the answer remains the same-not our problem. businesses always have to deal with the issue of supply and demand, or they fail. it's that simple and plenty of businesses fail and it isn't our problem. should we intervene with any business that has some kind of problem?

the second issue is what america plans to do about replacing all the illegal immigrants who leave. the answer is still the same-nothing. those jobs will be filled as fast as they become available.

unemployment rises when you have too many workers for the economy to handle.

if you don't believe me, let's try it and see what happens.
