Following through on a campaign promise, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law Monday easing access to privately funded financial aid for undocumented college students. He also signaled that he was likely to back a more controversial measure allowing those students to seek state-funded tuition aid in the future.

Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), author of the private financial aid measure, described it as an important but incremental step toward expanding opportunities for deserving students who were brought to the U.S. illegally through no choice of their own. Cedillo is pressing ahead with a more expansive measure that would make certain undocumented students eligible for the state's Cal Grants and other forms of state tuition aid.

Our state is broke, and we are still giving hand outs to illegals. Apparently to Democrats someone that commits a federal offense needs a scholarship and financial help instead of prison. Our country is so screwed, it's depressing.

I'm not surprised. He is a left-wing Democrat, after all.
Maybe it's time for a recall election?

I feel bad for you folks in California.

It is such a beautiful state and it has gone downhill fast.

They aren't undocumented. I am sure they have some documents to identify themselves or they wouldn't even be able to attend college. What they are is illegal aliens.

Kids of US citizens who live in other states are treated as "foreigners" by CA but illegals are embraced. The "dream act" for illegals is a "nightmare act" for US citizens and legals.

This is absolutely mind-boggling, especially in a state with such a huge budget deficit. Thank goodness the residents of Maryland fought a similar law that would have become effective July 1st. California residents should follow suit. Otherwise, you can expect even more illegals to flock to your state. How sad.

............as if california actually had the funds to accomplish this. Tell me, is this a dream or an hallucination?

Not one poster realizing that this bill is about private financing. Not one. The most there is about public financing in the article is a guess that maybe it would happen in the future.

This bill allows private individuals and groups to provide scholarships, it's not taxpayer money.

How about we have a citizenship test where the only criteria is the ability to read the first paragraph of a newspaper article?

At least Cali knows how to bankrupt a state.

Let the illegals fight with the citizens on why the state is broke.
