It appears the illegals often lie about their addresses:

Post Office Returns Letters In NM Driver's Licenses Check - News Story - KVIA El Paso

Gov. Susana Martinez's office says more than a quarter of the letters her office sent out to verify whether immigrants who received a New Mexico driver's license continue to be residents of the state have been returned by the post office.

If they were legal they wouldn't be incentivized to lie about their addresses.

And as a bonus, our big brother surveillance state databases would be more useful.

They can be legal at HOME.

Very good point. Back home they can use their real addresses, don't have to lie about the state they're living in, they can buy insurance there, live honest lives.

Which they could do here just fine as well if it were possible to get blue collar type work visas.

Oh, poor illegals, they’re forced to lie, cheat, and steal because the mean-spirited USA won’t grant them visas. How about growing some b***s and fighting for a better life at home. I’m sick of the BS excuses. We don’t owe them squat.

Moot point, under the current New Mexico policy those without Social Security numbers can get driver´s licenses and be insured. Would you rather have a driver be able to get insurance? You´re playing both sides of the fence again.

I would rather that they just all go back to their own country, and protest the issue of lack of jobs, healthcare, and quality of life there. Rather than protest that the laws here regarding illegal aliens are unfair.

And guess what...in the last 40 years, with the influx of illegal aliens in the US...what has happened to jobs, healthcare, and quality of life here...hmmm....

However apparently many of the illegals getting the NM licenses are actually not residents of the state after all. There seems to be a problem even where illegals are handed drivers licenses on a silver platter for them to tell the truth and abide by the laws that make it very very easy for them.

And there is no evidence these illegals bother to buy liability insurance.

Susana Martinez obviously is onto them even while many cannot see it.

Not to mention that the presence of millions of illegal aliens is why our blue collared workforce has been impacted negatively in job opportunities. Yeah, we should just give them a "blue collared visa" so they can continue to work at jobs that our American workers need. Makes sense to me.

Legal or illegal we just don't need them here. They don't fall within our annual quotas.
