late post but, it is so blatantly ridiculous that it bears repeating.....then YOU should pay for them privately as we cannot stop paying our taxes that fund the benefits that illegals receive.....

I don't know why people keep responding...(even myself) to these circular arguements....illegal is illegal, there is nothing else to be said.....

Within the last year, there was a piece about the elections heating up and pro-illegals starting to target website, message boards and blogs to offset/refute the comments by the anti-illegals....isn't that what we are seeing here ? Some of the stuff being said here doesn't even make any sense....I just don't bother much with their comments unless it is so far over the top, it makes my blood boil....not worth it. I can put them on ignore and they can put me on ignore, it works.

Speaking of "arguments" that should no longer be repeated.

Both rhymetime and I have come out and asked people what they'd think of allowing more immigrants to become citizens in exchange for their agreeing to have certain welfare programs be inaccessible to them. To no one's surprise, it was still not supported here.

Why should it be supported? It doesn't address the many other laws they have violated. Its weak plea bargain at best.

If talkin bout LEGAL immigrants, cool. ILLEGAL aliens need to leave the USA, get in line, maybe well will take em, maybe we wont if we dont need em.

It actually does, since once they are citizens all of those crimes will be made unnecessary. No one's going to commit document fraud when they are legally granted the documents.

How about NOBODY pay for them? Why is it that the current set of welfare laws are ABSOLUTELY FROZEN and any discussion of changing them is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS CRAZY TALK but we can entertain notions like amending the constitution to eliminate birthright citizenship?

This. If I suggested that since we have a democracy (let's just pretend that we do for a moment), we need to vote and only allow ONE beverage. Everyone will EITHER have to drink COFFEE or TEA. We'll vote, and the loser will be forbidden. Because, we're all "roommates" so we all gotta have the same rules, right? Well if I suggested that, everyone would be UP IN ARMS about how stupid of an idea that is. And they'd be ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CORRECT.

The point is that they are not being held accountable for thier crimes. I am sure if the fed gave everyone an allowance of 10g a week that would drastically reduce theft as a crime. It wouldnt address those who have already committed theft but it would reward them.
The biggest question in my mind about your idea is what message does this send to those not here yet?
Hurry up while you can their handing out free passes.
Regardless of the reason why they broke the law, regardless of how fair they you or I feel about a law its never right to reward criminal behavior.
Especially in this case. A foreign person who wants to immigrate here and the first statement they make is to break the law.
To be honest I really don't care how just any immigrant finds our system.
I intend to immigrate to Thailand in a few years. I will obey their laws, respect their customs and do my level best not to trespass against that nation. I disagree with many of their requirements. 40 g in a bank acct before I can even apply. I can never own land. I can lease but never own.
But I respect their right to determine what they feel is best for their country. Who am I do tell them what to do? Its me who wants to go there.

...so? If we aren't covering their welfare, why exactly would you care if more people arrived?
