Of course they are not cruel. We have no obligation to citizens of other countries. We also don't have the resources and infrastructure to accomodate all the citizens of other countries who want to come here. That's why we need immigration laws.

I agree that you have no obligation to others. But that doesn't give you a license to interfere with other people and prevent them from working, nor does it mean you have a right to get in my business and tell me who I can hire.
If you don't want to pay for them, then I suggest you stop doing it. Not interfere with other people's private transactions.
So...in someone's sick, twisted mind, treating CRIMINALS like, well, criminals, equates to Jim Crow laws? Or slavery? The only "slavery" involved is when these criminals are brought in and work illegally for those that will employ them in below legal conditions. That's not SLAVERY when they come here illegally and by choice.
I think the writers at the NYT need to put down the crack pipe.
You say that you are okay with the stop paying them scenario, yet not with interfering with other peoples private transactions.
What a hypocrite.
Not only that but Americans are obligated to pay for these illegal's social costs through our taxes. We don't get a say in how our taxes are spent.
