Gov. Peter Shumlin ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding a traffic stop along I-89 Tuesday, in which a state trooper detained two undocumented farm workers who were passengers in a car.
The driver - a U.S. citizen - was clocked at 88 MPH in a 65 MPH zone and issued a citation for speeding...O'Neill insisted state police had no reason to question the immigration status of two passengers in a car stopped for speeding. Well legal immigrants know full well they're supposed to carry their visas or green cards with them, so if they were here legally, there should be no problem asking them for their IDs.
I would think passengers in a car going 88 mph should all be checked out, even citizens.
Too bad nobody here speaks Spanish, they will just have to learn English or French.
What gets me is that the same gallon of milk costs $1 more in VT than in NH thanks to the VT subsidies. And none of the lazy a$$es who are collecting welfare would be willing to get up off their butts to milk cows and earn some of their keep.
The migrant supporters group is probably all transplants from Massachusetts anyway.

Farmers in Vermont are struggling. I get that. Even with subsidies they are struggling. And they cannot pay wages to workers to milk their cows (or pick their apples for that matter) that it would be possible to live on in this expensive little state.
So evidently the solution here is the same as it is in the meat-packing plants of NC, namely let in enough illegals to work for a pittance that goes along way when they send the money back home. And the governor says to close one eye and look the other way because agriculture / dairy is one of the economic backbones of the state.
What is interesting is that the dairy farmers are anything but liberal in their politics, but here we see strange bedfellows: the 'chucks who need the illegals to make their farms economically viable, and the liberal transplants who argue for the humane aspects. And Putney Pete of course isn't going to rock the boat with either camp.

Aren't there any unemployed citizens and welfare citizens in that area? Should working for a living really remain just an option? If someone is unemployed, then aren't they required to accept job offers they are given?
For the true labor shortages there are H2A visas available and in unlimited quantities.
Even the pro-illegals should prefer legitiimate work visas for their "migrants", without them, the "migrants" have to negotiate with violent vicious cartel smuggling rings, they can find themselves piled into mass burial pits as the cartels fight over their lucrative illegal business.
How much better and safer for the visa holder when they can cross safely over by bus or plane or taxi-cab and with their visa be transported safely to the work site.

They will expect trilingual in the case of VT. Right now they are in the shadows, but they will emerge and become increasingly more emboldened each time there is an incident where a law enforcement agent does it's job.
You can thank individuals like O'Neill in the article, for the beginning of the descent of the state of Vermont. People in the state have a hard enough time making ends meet with their current jobs -- wait until the unscrupulous employers start hiring illegals and undercutting their law-abiding competitors.
