This is 10 million bucks (like a few cents per person) so that people can speak English a little more effectively. If this makes you want to puke, you might want to give up all your worldly possessions and start over as a monk or something, because your life so far has resulted in some sort of moral hurricane.

Immigrants should have the common sense to learn the language on their own dime and not have to have the US taxpayers provide them everything.
Would you advise an American to relocate permanently to France or Germany or Spain and count on the taxpayers of those countries to provide him not only free health care but even free language classes?
If these people wished to learn English, they would have already made some effort to do so, they might simply turn the channel from Televisa to NBC or ABC. They would make some personal effort to learn the language.

Actually, the implication of the article was that this money is being spent to teach "illegals" our language. People who shouldn't even be in this country!
That has nothing to do with common sense. Here's some common sense - someone is offering language classes. You take them in order to learn it.
I've taken language classes but I paid for them myself. Why don't these "immigrants" pay their own way but instead expect the government to provide them yet another free handout?

The US has public libraries, schools, these are places where there is already access to learning English. There are private charities that address social issues like this. Government has no role in funding this. Obviously there is demand so private industry should fill it.

My point, of course, is not that government MUST give ten million bucks to this sort of cause. I'm simply pointing out that to be completely frothing at the mouth about this is absolutely ridiculous.

The government should not be singling out one ethnic or group of foreigners to give them anything.
The problem with libraries for La Raza is that it's not earmarked for any particular group of foreigners. Anyone can use a library, anyone can watch a television show in English, listen to English speaking radio stations but this is millions of dollars for foreigners, while citizens go without.
