Florida Marlins closer Leo Nunez was placed on the restricted list Thursday and has left the country.

The reason? Two people familiar with his immigration status told the Associated Press Nunez has been playing under an assumed name, and the issue prompted him to return Thursday to his native Dominican Republic.
Nunez Leaves Marlins on Identity Issue | NBC Miami

But, remember, they are only here doing the jobs Americans won’t do. After all, who would play baseball for $6 million?

I'm sure there are many legal minor league players who would love the opportunity.

Stolen identity or false idientity for use on Visas is a crime, not an "issue".

So are a lot of jobs. That is not an excuse to come here illegally. Are you ever going to stop defending these law breakers?

There are 2 ways of living and working here. Legally and illegally. Does the word "illegal" mean anything to you or do you only believe in it when it is more convenient to you?

Well he was working here legally wasn't he?

There is speculation as to whether Nunez will be cleared by Major League Baseball and the United States government to pitch in 2012.
His situation is unprecedented. A few years ago, Dominican Republic native Miguel Tejada had a discrepancy with his age, but not his identity.
If Nunez is cleared by the government to return, he still could be subjected to MLB disciplinary actions. There is no firm suspension policy, but teenagers who falsely identify themselves when they sign are subjected to a one-year suspension.

Apparently it's not the end of the world. *Gasp*

And? Perfect example of how immigration restrictions can hurt American business. Here's a highly skilled individual who for one reason or another can't just come here, sign some papers, get a background check and be good to go.
