So they can still hire the H-2 workers to come in just like they always have. The workers
should be paid minimum wage as it is low level work--I don't think I agree with this new pay increase for them. It will convert to more money in the workers' own currency, and it will still be affordable to the farmers.
It's understandable that not many people who have gone on to work at better jobs would ever want to go back to that low level of work--that's why we have the H-2 work visas in the first place.

Does anyone think 10 bucks an hour is a proper wage for this type of work? That would be a solid NO! Buck up or go out of business you cheapo.

Plus, why is this wanna be slave owner working the fields? Maybe he is the one getting soft, soft in the skull.

It’s just more of the same whiny “we have no one to pick our crops” BS. I agree with 1Angry. Either pay a decent wage, or fold.

And this in a state (from the article - Colorado) where there has been no immigration laws like that of Arizona, Georgia, or Alabama. It seems he made a mistake of his own in how many H2A's he was going to need, he took his own chance and had to bring in more after the season started. You can't blame him for using legal labor. Besides the story in the OP isn't even about illegal aliens, wrong forum.

How come this guys family isn't pulling vegetables? My family has had a farm for 100 years and we haven't needed illegals at some low wage to do our dirty work. This guy is a pansy in this article. Try throwing bales that weigh 100 lbs each all day for weeks at a time. 10 bucks an hour.... this guy is still living in 1965.

Just a thought here, but, how about having all the
people on unemployment (or welfare) work for a day
or two ? You could make it mandatory.

I've been unemployed for 6 months and I applied for 4 vegetable picking jobs and know one wanted me. Unfortunately, I can't afford to move for a job that's only paying minimum wage.

If you read the article at the end they mention how many of the Americans who do show up are Hispanics who immigrated long ago and worked agriculture. These people are the ones who are leaving after a days work.

See what the amnesty folks fail to mention is when Reagan gave amnesty many of the illegal pickets left their jobs for more lucrative and easier conditions.
