I don't think we should tear families apart. Send everyone home with Mom and Dad.

How many dollars? Not "hundreds". How many?

And another question. How many illegal moms are there on welfare?>>

For starters, from a government website:

Illegal immigration costs California $10.5 billion per year.
Virtually all such numbers are based on the cost of the education of legal children mostly. No source was given so it is not possible to check.

The thesis here is that illegals come to the US and have children to live off the resulting welfare.

It appears preposterous on its face. The max benefit available anywhere is around $500 and mostly less. Appears $350 in Nevada. These numbers are half to one third of the US poverty level.

We also hear complaints of immigrants, legal and illegal, remitting two billion a month to Mexico each month. So are we to believe that these young mothers on income well below poverty are exporting large sums to Mexico?

Not true. I have been on Welfare in the past and a family of 3 in Mass will get $522 a month for food and another $618 for Cash Benefits. The bigger the household, the bigger the amount. Oh and they also give you an one time cash allowance for clothes for any child under 18. My daughter was a newborn at the time and was given $155.

That is $1140 a month. If you work under the table and still get Welfare, you will have plenty of money to send back home. Plus it is not uncommon to have 8 people living in a 2 bedroom apartment.

"We're in this great country of opportunity and a lot of people will abuse that," Lorenza said. "And Hispanics by nature have very large families that sometimes they can't support."

KFOX-14 met other El Pasoans who have been using the program for more than a decade, including Gloria Vargas.

"If the parents aren't residents, [Texas Health and Human Services] will give them help for their children," Vargas said. She said she has been receiving food benefits for 15 years, since her son was born.

Another El Paso woman told KFOX-14 that she has received benefits since her son was born 17 years ago.

The only Texas county with a higher concentration of food stamp users than El Paso is HIdalgo County, also along the border."

Is that all a coincidence?

This is a family of one with no eligibility for housing. As I am sure you are aware MA has an unusual circumstance where municipal public housing is available to all. Not true in anywhere in the west or south I am aware of.

Many illegal immigrants live in public housing - USATODAY.com

"While there are no hard numbers on illegal immigrants in public housing, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reports that 29,570 people — 0.4% of all those in federally funded housing — are "ineligible noncitizens." Some may be on temporary visas, such as highly educated workers or college students, but many are believed to be illegal immigrants.

Frank Bean, director of the University of California, Irvine's Center for Research on Immigration, Population and Public Policy, estimates at least half of ineligible noncitizens — or about 15,000 — are illegal immigrants with U.S.-born children. Anyone born on U.S. soil is automatically a citizen, making their families eligible for federal housing."

I don't care if it is 1 illegal in the whole country living in Public Housing... It is ONE illegal too many.

Wait time for section 8 in most of CA is over 5 years. Other areas it gets well past 10 years. So by the time the kid is half grown you may get public housing.

Half percent and less is negligible. And it is probably driven by the delays.

You are never going to see zero. It is simply not possible. Status changes from legal to illegal to legal over the space of a few months.

No one is expecting illegal immigration to get down to zero but we need to get as many out of this country as we can and remove all the incentives for more to come here and one of the best ways to do that is to change birthright citizenship. That is a HUGE magnet and huge drain on our country.

This is right up there with telling the illegals that we don't like them and should therefore self deport. Be nice if it worked.

To change birth right citizenship would require an overwhelming concensus. And if the question is seriously raised new ideas will come forth. How about you can become a citizen only upon graduating from high school? Otherwise a national with rights to reside but no right to vote or hold office. We might also take the nationals right to gun ownership away. Maybe not let them drive after dark?

See what fun?

Note the Japanese have developed this to high art. Koreans remain non citizen even after four or five generations. Clever system. Keeps the underclass there forever..

Something will be done soon to stop this madness and you can take that to the bank. As for your ideas about citizenship, etc. words escape me.
