The memo was expected to explain why a program known as Secure Communities was optional for states and municipalities through at least the beginning of 2010, but became mandatory by the end of that year. The program enables the fingerprints of detainees arrested locally to be shared with federal authorities. Critics say the program has made immigrants reluctant to report crime because they fear deportation. Please tell me what crime they are reluctant to report except their own?
this is not the fault of a judgemental and stereotyping society as presented. this is somebody squatting on our land. assert your rights be free in your own country.
First of all, if they were not here illegally they would not have this worry. Just throwin' that out there.
Second, many police officers want to catch people who do bad things whether the victim is illegal or not and many do not even ask about the immigration status of crime victims. I bet in some jurisdictions it's even prohibited, or the cops look the other way. They'd rather catch a wife beater or drunk driver than an illegal.
In many instances, being a crime victim is an illegal's ticket to getting a visa, so I would think they would be quite eager to report certain crimes.
It is always, always, always possible to report crimes anonymously using a pay telephone and three numbers: 9, 1, and 1 again.
These people are being stupid and paranoid, or they're just playing the sympathy card. Either way, no sale.
If he is desperate for cash he will "jack" one of the newly arrived immigrants because they carry lots of cash, rarely report crimes to the police, and "give it up easy." Ferndog told me this matter of fact and with a straight face, as if he were discussing his favorite food or the bus route he uses to get home. "My God!" I remember thinking at the time aghast, "Nobody ever taught this boy the difference between right and wrong!"
It means criminals can terrorize communities with illegals (often illegals live in the same apartment complexes or the same communities in a major metro area), and get away with it!

It's cultural. Look at what is taking place in Mexico where most of the illegals are from. People can be executed in broad daylight, no one around saw or heard anything. Store owners don't report extortion, even the families of kidnapped victims won't call the police. A whole family can be executed but there are never any witnesses who admit they saw anything.

Heh. Merely getting fleeced for some cash must seem like a move up in life.

It's not cultural, murders happen in the inner cities here in the United States, and no one will "snitch" to whom committed the crime...
Quit talking trash about Mexicans that aren't here illegally...

Is that characterization of life in Mexico inaccurate?
