Obama is prioritizing the illegals and deporting the ones who have committed serious crimes (other than breaking our immigration laws). That would be a good thing except that I have this feeling that once he gets rid of the blatant criminals, the rest will be granted amnesty.
Instead, they need to be notified that if they return to their country and APPLY they can get back in and become a legal resident and maybe, eventually, even a citizen. I can understand shortening the time that they have to leave the US--not ten years the way it is now--but they do have to leave for a while and apply, get checked for background and communicable diseases, ability to support themselves, maybe by getting a US sponsor, and pay the money that everyone else pays to get processed and eventually admitted. Let them get an idea of how the system works. They are not special and should not get special treatment. Maybe modify the waiting period for them, that's all. Other than that, they'd immigrate just the same way as anybody else does.

Why would anyone think an illegal alien would come forward and identify himself in order to apply for anything. They will stay hidden until they have a 100% garantee that they will not be deported before they come out. Once they are "identified" then they would have to become part of our society and be accountable like we are. No more fake IDs, and not paying their taxes. No more running up bills under on name and then changing their name and walking away from the bill.. WE CANT DO THAT SO WHY SHOULD THEY. They want their cake and eat it too.

Yes and they aren't finding but a handful of the very violent criminals to put on that show that they're deporting them.
As long as the prizes for breaking the laws are so lucrative, as long as there are no penalties for breaking the laws, and big promises of amnesty as the big jackpot prize they will win for breaking the laws, of course they will continue to come illegally over the border or disregard the terms of their visas.
Why respect the laws? What does that get them? Nothing. But break the laws and the politicians have all kinds of treats waiting for them.
It's as though the politicians are saying: we will have border patrol at the border stopping illegals but hey you illegals -- just find a way through and no matter what other laws you break as far as taking jobs, committing felony fraud, no problem -- you will find yourself very richly rewarded. Break the laws and manage to get past border patrol only at the border, or better yet, get a visa and break the terms of it and you've won the big one, you will be handed citizenship and all that comes with it as your award.
With that attitude, why even pretend to stop them at the border?

Make it impossible for them to get jobs. They won't come here.

You forgot some things:
If illegal aliens got amnesty; they would demand and get higher wages so greedy employers would still be where they started compared to having NO illegal aliens here at all.
Those countries where people ARE starving have very few illegal aliens here so what's Mexico's problem? People aren't starving there anymore, now many of them are fat.

You're the one who is being silly if you think we should roll over and accept this illegal immigration mess. There are unlimited visas for crop pickers so the farmers have no excuse hiring illegal aliens. No, most coming here illegally are not starving either and I could give a flying flip if lawbreakers die trying to break the law.
Only 3% of illegals are picking crops while the other 97% are doing jobs that Americans have always done for a fair wage. Educate yourself on this issue. We already take in as many immigrants annually that we can accomodate in jobs and resources. We don't any more coming here to compete for those things with millions of Americans out of work and country nearly bankrupt. These people need to go home and we need to deter anymore from coming here that don't fall within our annual quotas.
