People that break the laws are held accountable here in the USA..The cartels so far dont control our police as in the countries SOUTH of here. So what should the punishment be?

As the laws state: being here in violation of immigration laws requires deportation. Simple.
Deportation, however I think there should be a short jail sentence (maybe a month or so) first.
For a second or subsequent offense, a prison term of several years.
However, I would not support this until after a period of cutting off all taxpayer-funded benefits to illegals and prosecuting employers of illegals in large numbers so that the illegals lose their jobs. They should be given them time to self-deport (or be deported without incarceration) first.
Maybe not after a second offense, but I've seen stories about illegals having been deported 10+ times and continuing to return. Something has to be done to stop it.
I think some type of corporal punishment would be in order. Maybe a good public beating and then deportation.....
Oh yeah, can see human rights and ACLU all over that..................
Deport them and build a fence they can't scale or electric wire across the top. Electric fences always keep horses in, they should be able to keep people out.
Our government is why these people return. We make it way to easy to cross the border and enter the U.S. without any fight or trouble.
Deportation, seizure and forfeiture of assets to pay for criminal/deportation costs and a permanent ban on re entry.
Re entry would earn them 5 years in a hard labor camp in the desert building roads and clearing trash with no compensation.
Also friends, family and employers to be held accountable for knowingly aiding and abetting a foreign criminal with steep fines and NO loopholes to avoid punitive measures.
Recent immigrants and green card holders involved would have their legal status revoked and would be deported also.
That and vigorously enforcing current laws = Problem solved !!!

In other words; treat our "guests" for what they really are, criminals. Once a few illegals get punished to the full extent of the law WHEN caught, there will be a mass flow OUT of this country.
