Worried about the large number of Latino children taken away from parents and placed in California foster care, a host of state politicians Friday took over a church hall once occupied by farmworker leader Cesar Chavez to hear answers to the problem.
And they got an earful from locals calling for solutions ranging from free college tuition for foster care students to hiring more bilingual social workers and giving counties enough money and flexibility to fix the problem.

Don't come here illegally and you will save you and your family some grief. Don't expect to find too much sympathy about your plight.

Well, the locals think the solution lies in making more government money available.
That is no solution.

There was little explanation as to why all these Latino kids are in foster care facilities. Just one case was mentioned where the now 17 year old's mother here illegally (and so was he) had died.

It mentions that these kids have been taken away from their parents but why? The article is very vague.

Severe neglect, abuse, drug addiction. No family values. Same reasons other children are taken from parents.

I suspect that is true in some or many of these cases. They conviently left that part though and chose to focus on the 17 year old whose mother had died.

Good question. You don't see these agencies worrying much about any other kind of people. We're supposed to feel worse I think when they report how many latino kids have to be removed from useless parents.

Or maybe more latino kids are in foster care because other people are more responsible when it comes to having children, it's not just some machismo cultural thing for everyone.

Not an illegal immigration issue. Latino does not equal illegal, regardless of how much some would want it to.
