Why don't you tell us your answer?

Illegal aliens shouldn't be driving. Period. If found driving they should be arrested, fined and deported. Anything we can do to make life as hard as possible for them should be done. They are criminals and a burden on this country's taxpayers. If they don't like it, they can take the bus. It's absolutely outrageous that so many of them feel so free to simply ignore our laws. Part of the reason they come here is that they are allegedly fleeing a lawless society that makes life miserable for them. The least they could do is not attempt to recreate that kind of lawlessness on our own roads.

A driver's license is essentially a form of widely accepted ID. Give them to illegals and you make it much harder to identify and deport them. That's not what most Americans want. Our wishes should not be ignored.

Susana Martinez wants to revoke the current law, allowing licenses to be issued to illegals. She is supported by 72% of voters on this issue.
Way to legitimize an illegal activity!! What next, a social security card, Unemployment and SSDI

The Times does such a biased job on this issue. The article keeps referring to illegals as simply immigrants as if there were no difference between someone who follows legal procedures to move here and someone who simply sneaks into this country without permission and does as he pleases.

Immigrant implies permanency. Illegals can be removed at any time. Therefore they aren't permanent and aren't immigrants.

According to our Motor Voter law, a voter registration form must be attached to each driver's license application. Stupidly, it's operated on the "honor system." They rely on the integrity of the applicant to swear under penalty of perjury that they are a U.S. citizen. Given their propensity for fraud, it stands to reason that illegals have been registering to vote. This, in addition to the reasons others have stated, is precisely why illegals should not be issued a license.

Everyone in the United States legally? How about "non-immigrant" visas, Border Crossing Cards, etc.? Where is the line drawn, say for someone legally present, but having a status that expires (is the license expiry linked to the status expiry date?)?

What about the other side of what Governor Martinez proposes? Legal Permanent Residents that are required licenses yearly. Does someone that has "Permanent Resident" for their status here, and following all laws, need to have that as a requirement?

What effect does it have on YOu, whomever has the license?...

UH. Yeah. No Joke.

How about sending the ILLEGALS home rather than issuing them licenses? What part of they are here illegally do you not get?l

What about when legal immigrants (without status to vote) go to get a license?...
