If the illegals don't want to put their kids through this, they can opt for voluntary departure, or leave immediately. Instead they choose the formal deportation process and the detention center and don't give a damn about seeing their kids in the meantime.

With voluntary departure, an arrested illegal just makes the choice to be returned home - no court, no deportation order, not much time in a detention center.

I think other criminals would feel lucky to have such a choice.

Seriously! If I get convicted for tax fraud and ID theft tomorrow would they ask how my kids are doing or would they just lock me up in accordance with the process of law?

Not only would they lock you up, if you were pregnant, you'd give birth in prison. When citizens choose to live outside the law, they don't receive preferential treatment simply for being a parent. Neither should illegals.

The only thing stolen in that article is a bunch of tax payer money.
